Let us confess that God is God and we are not. Silence for confession Almighty God, As we become fully immersed into a new year, we ask your forgiveness for those things that we have done and have failed to do that bring harm to you, others, or ourselves. We are sorry. We beg for your mercy. Reveal to us your power to change our lives. Cleanse us from our sin, and transform us by your forgiveness. Amen. Our Lord Jesus walked on this earth to bring forgiveness and new life to all. In Jesus’ name, I proclaim to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins. verse of the 17th chapter

Narrator: Then Jesus told his disciples,

Jesus: If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For

those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. For what will it

profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life? For the

Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay everyone for what has been

done. Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming

in his kingdom.

Narrator: Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high

mountain, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes

became dazzling white. Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. Then Peter said to

Jesus,

Peter: Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for you, one for Moses,

and one for Elijah.

Narrator: While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said,

Voice (ALL): This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!

Narrator: When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus came and

touched them, saying,

Jesus (Kids and youth, 1st-12th grades): Get up and do not be afraid.

Narrator: And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone.

Prayers for All People - It is our duty and our joy to pray not only for our own lives and for the church but for the world, especially those in need. Each petition will end with, “Hear us Oh God” and your prayer response is “Your mercy is great.”

Offering All that we have and all that we are comes from God. Let us give back to God in a spirit of generosity. There will be enough. Please put your offering of gratitude to God in the plate as it passes by.

Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Blessing After the Meal May the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in God’s peace. Amen. Let us pray. O God, our life, our strength, our food, we give you thanks for sustaining us with the body and blood of your Son. By your Holy Spirit, give us life to be his body in the world, that more and more we will give you praise and serve your earth and its many peoples, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Why does our church exist? What is our purpose? We go out to transform lives through Jesus Christ.

Blessing to GO… We go with God’s blessing into a world that is often chaotic and not peaceful or welcoming of God. We go into the chaos to bless others in God’s name. The God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus. Amen. The God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The God of all grace + bless you now and forever. Amen.
