Traineeship Engagement - Hair & BeautyNo formal entry requirements. Must be aged between 16 and 18.

Level 1Beauty Therapy OR HairdressingTwo GCSEs at grade D or above (may include 1 relevant equivalent) to include English Language or First Language Welsh.

Level 2Beauty TherapyThree GCSEs at grade D or above (may include 1 relevant equivalent) to include English Language or First Language Welsh, Science and preferably Mathematics or Numeracy.

HairdressingTwo GCSEs at grade D or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include English Language/First Language Welsh and Science plus either Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing or Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing.

Complementary Therapies (Part-time study)Two GCSEs at grade D or above (may include 1 relevant equivalent) to include English Language or First Language Welsh and Science.

Barbering (Part-time study)Please enquire

BackgroundIf hair, beauty, spa therapies and creating a great personal image is important to you then you’ll love our hairdressing, beauty therapy and complementary therapies courses.

Offering a variety of specialised full and part time programmes, you will soon be on the right track to gaining qualifications and skills that could allow you to practice all around the world.

FacilitiesLearners benefit from seven dedicated and recently refurbished salons including commercial salons for hair, beauty and complementary therapies. Carrying out treatments on paying clients forms an integral part of the course and learners are expected to develop reception and customer service skills alongside their main programme to allow them to progress in the industry.

Guest LecturesWe work closely with local employers and industry professionals to show learners the full breadth of opportunities available within this booming industry. We have strong relationships with local salons and spas as well as with global companies such as Steiner Cruise Liners with several hair and beauty students currently working on cruise ships in the Caribbean.

CompetitionsWe encourage all learners to take part in local and national competitions. Current and former students have achieved success in past competitions building both their confidence and their skills - making them attractive to future employers.

Levels ExplainedEntry Level and Level 1Our Level 1 and Entry Level courses are suitable for you have few of no formal qualifications. If you don’t get the GCSE grades you had hoped for, then you can start at Entry Level and work your way up.

Level 2Most of our Level 2 courses require you to have GCSE grades at D and some even require you to have achieved C grades in certain subjects. Entry requirements for each course vary so please check the website before applying.

Level 3If you have five GCSEs at grade C or above (some courses may require you to have achieved B grades in certain subjects) you can go straight in at Level 3 (equivalent to studying A-levels).

How to Apply1. Visit our website, select your course and apply online

You’ll need to create and account and this will be used to update you on the progress of your application. If you need any help with your application, please contact our Admissions team: [email protected]

2. InterviewOnce we have received your application we would normally invite you into the College for an interview. Given the current circumstances, you may be invited to a virtual interview instead.

3. OfferIf we are happy with your application and interview we will make you a conditional offer. Your place will be subject to you obtaining the necessary GCSE grades.

4. UpdatesWe’ll send you periodic emails between now and September to let you know we haven’t forgotten about you!

5. EnrolmentYou’ll be invited to an enrolment day in August where we will check your grades and enrol you on your course. If you don’t get your grades, don’t panic, our Advice and Guidance team will work with you to find a suitable alternative.
