FEATURED PROJECT Beaver River Bridge Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Services provided: A complete geotechnical investigation, full-time inspection of the borings, Phase I and III Environmental Site Assessments, right-of-way, surveying of the project area, including coordination with railroads to obtain accurate information on track geometry and a hydrographic survey along the proposed new bridge alignment, and evaluation of the subgrade conditions for pavement design, Problem Statement and Draft, Exploration Plans (PSDEPs) to support the geotechnical investigation and design of the replacement structures, the new roadway, and cut and fill slopes, analysis and design for all structures, Geotechnical Engineering Report (GER), and Foundation Investigation Reports, Overview: AWK was responsible for providing engineering services for preliminary and final design of the new Turnpike mainline bridges over the Beaver River and SR 0018, the replacement of overhead bridges carrying the Homewood Viaduct (T-680) and the Norfolk Southern Railroad over the mainline, the reconfiguration of the Beaver Valley Interchange, and required realignments of the Turnpike mainline. The project also includes the design of a culvert extension, two retaining walls, up to 120-feet high cut slopes at several locations, embankment fills, evaluation of subgrade conditions for pavement design, and new access roads to the eastern and western banks of the Beaver River.
