Dear Parents, Well the excitement of 2020 continues! I hope all of you stayed safe during Tropical Depression Beta and we are so proud of how quickly everyone was able to get online and continue instruction. This is good news since we will not have to make up a day of school later in the year. There are some silver linings to all of this craziness and we have actually found some better ways to manage moving forward. We might never have even thought of them had we not been forced to reconfigure everything due to the pandemic. This Friday is the deadline to let us know if you are interested in switching your child to face to face or remote for the second quarter. Please be sure to email your teacher with that information so we have plenty of time to plan. If we do have a lot of children coming in person, we may need to revisit some of our guidelines due to spacing. This could involve moving closer than 6 ft., when it will become even more important for our students to strictly adhere to protocols pertaining to distancing, exhibiting symptoms and masks. It has now been proven that the masks with the vents are not good protection for others, so we ask that you please avoid these types of masks beginning in October. I know many of you have already purchased them and we are trying our best not to limit options too much, but we also need to make sure we are adhering to current safety information. The really good news is that we have managed to avoid any breakouts so far!! I’m nervous even saying that, but if we did have any confirmed cases on campus, please note that all families would be notified. We do not disclose any names or details of those involved. By maintaining our current safety protocols, even if we had a case, we would avoid shutting down cohorts, classes and/or the school. Thank you for taking this seriously and joining with us in achieving this important goal. Flu season is upon us now and COVID-19 cases are predicted to rise this fall. Please keep your guard up and don’t relax yet! Every day that our community is healthy is a huge blessing. Speaking of reasons to be careful, this Friday would have been our beautiful annual Grandparents’ Day Mass and Celebration; however, we will have to postpone until it is safe to gather so many loved ones all together. We are sad to miss this important cherished event but will keep our loved ones in our prayers during this difficult time. .God bless,

Suzanne Barto M.Ed. Principal

POINTS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN STUDENTS ARE LEARNING REMOTELY (Reference: National Association of Elementary School Principal-Managing Virtual Learning Stress)

● Space out Social Zooms - the social time is important but make sure students have time to be off Zoom for a

while after the school day. ● Take outdoor breaks - Getting children outside helps to relax their eyes and minds. ● Have kids make their own lunch - This helps engage a different part of their brain and gives a sense of

control over what they eat. ● Build-in Brain Breaks - We shared an example in an earlier counselor corner. These can be just an activity

for two to five minutes away from the “screen.” ● Use mindfulness activities - These activities help increase social-emotional health and the ability to focus, a

few examples: coloring mandalas, blowing bubbles, deep breathing exercises. Mrs. Schurman’s Guidance Google Classroom-Has your child joined? For students in grades 5-7, you see a study skills class listed on their schedule a few times a week. Please see below: (This was shared on PIN night)

● Grades 5th-7th- Students receive information for study skills and SEL lessons. For those students that are remote or absent, please see the Guidance Google Classroom by grade level. There is usually a screencast and lessons that aid in study skills and social-emotional health. From time to time I will ask students to share something with me. Please note, not everything will be turned in.

● 8th Grade--These students also have access to the 8th grade Guidance Google Classroom. I also share some lessons on this Google Classroom, and I will coordinate some lessons with the health teachers.

5th-8th grade students can communicate with Mrs. Schurman by using the Google Classroom or school email. Mrs. Nickel is hoping to start Guidance lessons both in person and through the online platforms in the next week. Keep on the lookout for information from her and she is looking very forward to seeing and talking to all the children!

OUR FOUNDING PASTOR

Please keep in your prayers the repose of the soul of our founding pastor, Fr. Laurence Connelly. He had a vision for this faith

community and 35 years later, we are blessed to participate in the life of the parish that shares his name. A private funeral Mass will

be celebrated this week.
