Hello, Friend!

As you probably know by now, one of the best things to ever happen to me was meeting

an old man named Jones. He gave me an invaluable gift that has served me well ever since

that night I met him under the Gulf State Pier—the gift of perspective. And perspective is

what becoming a noticer is all about.

The purpose of this program is to show you the actionable steps you can take to giving

yourself the gift of perspective not only in your life, but in the lives of those around you

as well. When you change your perspective, amazing things will begin to happen in your

behavior, which, in turn, will affect the way others behave toward you.

As I’ve said before, perspective brings calm; calm leads to clear thinking; clear thinking

yields ideas; and from ideas…we get answers.

If you’re eager to get answers in your life, whether they are answers about your

relationships, finances, career, children, or anything else, you will find them by changing

your perspective. And you can start changing it right now.

Persist!

• Find a quiet, comfortable place with minimal distractions. (Does such a place exist anymore?)

• Make sure to sit up straight. (When you drop your shoulders, your diaphragm collapses, limiting the amount of oxygen flowing into your lungs.)

• Keep reminding yourself to breathe. (When we write, we have a tendency to hold our breath. Obviously, this will not be beneficial to our work.)

• If you hear a little voice in your head saying “I don’t know” to any of the questions, remind yourself that all the answers you need are within you. (Saying “I don’t know” kills creative thinking by stopping your brain from going through the thought process. Take a deep breath and anticipate that the answer will come to you.)

• Put on inspiring music. (Music can help stimulate creative thought. The music most conducive for writing is instrumental only, no lyrics.)

• Have fun with this! It’s easy for us to take ourselves too seriously and miss out on all the fun. Smile often. Laugh. Play with these exercises as if you were a kid. Planning your life doesn’t have to be boring—in fact, it better not be!

When doing each exercise, here are a few helpful tips to get the best results:

“Life is like dessert. Keep your fork…the best is yet to come!”

Think about the various aspects of your life—personal, professional, family, relationships, etc. Think of different ways to look at these areas than you usually do. How can you see them differently?

Is there a “storm” going on in your life right now? How could it become a “storm of perfection”? Can you think of a “storm of perfection” that has already occurred in your life? Write it down.

What is something you have been intending to do but have not actually done? What is the first action you can take toward accomplishing this task?

Listen to the questions Andy asks at the beginning of Track 4. Choose three of them and write your responses below.

Who are the 3 to 5 most important people in your life?

What are some of the adjectives that each of these people would use to describe who you are?

How do their expectations shape your life, and how do your own expectations shape your life?

Where are you in your life right now? Describe it. Where do you want to be? What steps can you take to bridge the gap?

How can you start developing the habit of communicating these things to these individuals today?

“Many people ignore ‘small stuff,’ claiming to have an eye on the bigger picture, never understanding that the bigger picture is composed entirely of

small stuff.”

Is there something you haven’t communicated to these people with your actions, something you’d like to communicate to them before you die?

Next time you’re placed in a bad situation, think of different perspectives for it. For example, if you’re stuck in traffic, you could view it as an opportunity for quiet reflection or an opportunity for a good conversation if someone is in the car with you. Record each perspective shift in a special notebook. You can refer back to them when you’re having difficulty seeing a situation differently. They will inspire you.

Fertile Ground“If you ever want folks to believe in you, then it really helps if they like you.”

DISC 2

Do you celebrate your achievements as much as you should?

What are some ways you can reward yourself for achieving things?

1.2.3.4.

What challenges cause you to experience more negative emotions than any others?

1.2.3.4.

What is the challenge that stirs up the most conflict within you?

Do you believe life is just a lottery ticket? Why or why not?

How could you use your experience to comfort them?

Do you know anyone who is going through a situation you’ve been through?

How would you act if you were to act like you have already become what you want to become?

“We often judge ourselves by our

intentions while we judge others by their

actions.”

Look at your responses to question 1. Every time you achieve something, even if it’s something small, commit yourself to celebrating in one of the ways you listed. Challenge yourself to find ways to help others celebrate their achievements as well. They don’t even have to know you’re doing it.

Daily Practice:

What do you want to become?

Are you sleeping on fertile ground tonight? What will grow from the challenges you are currently facing?

Disc Three: Reinventing Relationships

Are you willing to seek love first and be loved second?

Have you been this way in the past?

How can you become this way?

What results do you want to get out of changing the way you communicate?

“In desperate times, much more than

anything else, folks need perspective.”

Actively seek to discover the love dialects of those around you. Once you have determined what they are, spend time “speaking” back to them in their own dialect every day, even if it’s only for a few minutes. You will be amazed by the difference it will make in your relationship. Also, make an effort to let loved ones know what YOUR love dialect is.

What areas of your mind and heart have you not entered because of fear, because of hesitation in other aspects of your life, because of what you might find out about yourself?

What areas of your mind and heart do you need to explore for the first time?

Ask yourself: “In five sentences or less, how would I explain the purpose of my life to others and myself in a way that empowers me to actually go out and fulfill that purpose? How will I explain the purpose of my life, using 5 sentences or less, in a way that I could memorize and always have on the tip of my tongue and brain?

“It’s time to stop letting your history

control your destiny. ”

Begin repeating your five-sentence purpose in life at least once a day as a reminder. You can even write it on a small note card and carry it around in your wallet or pocket. It’s easy to get off track. Repeating your purpose will keep you focused.
