Understanding positive thinking and self-talk
• Self-talk is the endless stream of thoughts that run through your head every day. These automatic thoughts can be positive or negative.
• Some of your self-talk comes from logic and reason. Other self-talk may arise from misconceptions that you create because of lack of information.

Excerpt from Power of Positive Thinking By Norman Vincent
Peale• "I do not ignore or minimize the hardships and
tragedies of the world, but neither do I allow them to dominate."
• "Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities. Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy. But with self-confidence you can succeed. A sense of inferiority and inadequacy interferes with the attainment of your hopes, but self-confidence leads to self-realization and successful achievement."

Ways to “reactivate” traits
1. Think how you view the trait on a personal level
if you believe you can’t be confident, you
probably can’t, because your beliefs about the trait will affect your thinking, which affects your feelings, which affects your actions or behaviors

Examples of typical negative self-talk and how you might apply a positive
thinking twist include:
• Negative self-talk• I've never done it before
• It's too complicated
• I don't have the resources.
• There's not enough time.
• There's no way it will work.
• It's too radical a change.
• No one bothers to communicate with me.
• I'm not going to get any better at this.
• Positive spin• It's an opportunity to learn something
new.
• I'll tackle it from a different angle.
• Necessity is the mother of invention.
• Let's re-evaluate some priorities.
• I can try to make it work.
• Let's take a chance
• .I'll see if I can open the channels of communication
• I'll give it another try. 14Mrs. Najam-un-Nisa

• Allow large in quantity chance /fate, /luck in our lives. A positive attitude maintained through positive thinking brings about the events and the people that will help us achieve our goals.

• Connection with others. When you practice positive thinking, a connection with other people happens more easily, as you are open to them, and not so concerned with your own stuff.
• Also, when you are in a positive mood you are a joy to others, who may even feel enlightened by your presence.
• Move in the right direction to achieve what you want. Thinking positively brings clarity of mind and a courageous attitude, so starting new projects or getting on with existing ones becomes an exciting activity.

Tips to overcome negative thoughts (by Norman Vincent Peale)
• Picture yourself as succeeding. Look at yourself in the mirror and say, “I’m a positive person. I won’t let negative thoughts control me. I’m a winner in life.”
• Whenever a negative thought comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought to cancel it out.
Change the tone of your thoughts from negative to positive. For example, instead of thinking “This problem is too difficult” think “This problem is cool and challenging”.
