Funding

We are working in partnership with Central Bedfordshire Council. The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and European Social Fund (ESF) will fund or co-fund learners who are unemployed and receiving Job Seekers Allowance (JSA), Income Support or Universal Credit (conditions apply) or earn less than 16 times the National Minimum Wage a week or £330 a month, housing benefit, council tax relief and tax credits. You will need to provide a letter from the Job Centre dated one month before the course start date as confirmation. Learners must be 19 years and above on 31 August 2018.

An Introduction to Safeguarding Children Course Tutor: Helen Field This course is a half-day session which is suitable as a refresher or for a new member of staff, who has no Safeguarding experience. Safeguarding training needs to be updated every 2 years

Aims: By the end of the session learners will be able to:

Dyspaxia is not just about being clumsy! Course Tutor: Wendy Usher – Inclusion Training Course Details: Many children are seen a being clumsy, falling over, misjudging widths of doorways, constantly spilling drinks and knocking this over. Dyspraxia used to be called the clumsy child syndrome. It’s far more than this. It affects the way a child or young person may take in information, make sense of it and relate this to the world around them. Children may have short term memory difficulties, self-organisation may be hard and the ability to concentrate disrupted. We will look at this and much more with ideas and practical suggestions on how to support children and young people

ITERS – 1 Day Training – Infant and Toddler Environment Scale Rating Course Tutors: Helen Field, Teresa West Course Details: ITERS-R evaluates the practice and the environment for Infant and Toddlers from birth to 30 months. The Environmental Rating Scales are a framework to support self-evaluation and improvement. The scales are recognised by OFSTED and support the principles of the EYFS. You will be given the Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scale Book. Aim: The aim is to observe and score practice using the Rating Scales to measure quality, identifying areas of good practice and areas for development. Delegates will:

Course Details: This course gives an overview and an awareness of how medications are administered, but does not substitute training in how to give them according to the child’s individual health care plan. Aims:

Awareness of Bedford Borough Council Document "Guidance on managing medicines in schools and early year’s settings") (adapted from the DfES guidance Management Medicines in Schools and Early Years Settings 2005).

The need to establish the following procedures: administering, self-management, refusal, storage and disposal. Record keeping and Insurance. Emergency medicines.

Raise awareness of common medical conditions and the implications to children e.g. asthma and diabetes, which will include what they are, how to recognise symptoms and awareness appropriate emergency procedures.

Managing Staff Performance through Appraisal and Supervision

Course Tutor: Helen Field Course Details: This one day course is designed to support managers and practitioners who lead and support staff members, students or volunteers. Regular supervision of staff is a vital element in the safeguarding of children and creating a safe working culture. The updated Safeguarding and welfare requirements in the EYFS state that effective ongoing supervision of staff should be implemented providing support coaching and training for practitioners. Paediatric First Aid for Childcare Practitioners Training Providers: Bostock Health Care, HTS Ltd, St John Ambulance Course Details: Paediatric First Aid is specifically designed to cover issues for children less than 12 years of age and meets the EYFS criteria for effective PFA training Paediatric first aid includes resuscitation, choking suffocation, strangulation, breath holding, inhalation of fumes, asthma, croup, anaphylaxis, accident books, wounds, bleeding, shock, recognition and treatment of fractures, dislocation, strains and sprains, first aid kits, burns and scalds, electric shock, seizures, fainting, poisoning, head injuries, meningitis, diabetes, foreign, extremes of heat and cold, sickle cell - amongst other things. This is a two-day, 12 hour infant and childcare resuscitation training course, attendance is required for both days. Please ensure you wear suitable clothing, loose fitting trousers and trainers are advised. Safer Recruitment Course Tutor: Helen Field Course Details: This one day course is based on an understanding of offender behaviour to: identify key features of staff recruitment that help deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people. Consider policies and practices that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt reporting. This course will help participants to begin to review their own organisations policies and procedures in recruitment with a view to making them safer. Safer Recruitment training should be updated at least every 5 years. It is mandatory for someone sitting on the recruitment panel within schools to have done safer recruitment training.
