Pathophysiology

EUA Guidelines 2006

•Bedwetting as a single symptom is called enuresis.

•Prevalence 5-10% at 7 years of age.

•Spontaneous yearly cure rate of 15%.

Definition

•Enuresis is a symptom of incontinence during night.

•Wetting both day and night,or isolated day wetting is called urinary incontinence.

•Primary enuresis when a child has never had a dry period for at least 6 months

•Secondary enuresis has experienced a dry spell of at least 6 months.

•Monosymptomatic enuresis means there are no daytime symptoms ti suggest disorders of the lower urinary tract such as overactive bladder.

•Urine loss due to complete normal emptying

Incontinence

•Urine loss due to incomplete emptying

•Children with PNE are in low risk of having psychiatric problem

(compared with non-enuretics)

There is higher risk in children with more complex forms of enuresis

•Secondary

•With daytime wetting
