Belfast Confettilanguage:1) personification- it was raining exclamation marks literary illusion

2) the reason why the peom is all about language could be due to the fact that the poet cannot answer the questions that the british soldiers are asking him, (irony) the poet is using all there language stuff whereas the persona cant even form a sentence

3)Irony in the title- confetti is thrown in parties, an euphemism for everyday things being thrown, nuts, bolts things that hold the stuff, used for construction, building something is now being thrown to metaphorically and literally break down the world of the Irishmen.

4) the change of tense from the first to the second stanza shows that war is a continuos process that it has no end, structure:1) ellipsis visual representation2) hyphen- visual representation of the fire3) lists of thing- which quicken the pace4) enjambment- creates spaces in the peom and metaphorically oppurtunities for the persona to escape by the cant because none of them lead to freedom

I know this battle.the poet is telling us that the persona survived those famous battle but he cannot excape from this because this war has no meaning, there is no purpose behind the war, the pople are just fightihg for the sake of killing people The whole peom is an extended metaphor for the way conflict has destroyed our language- he couldnt communicate with the british soldiers

flag language: Rheotorical questions0- makes audience think about the flag gives significanbe to the flag Repetition its just a piece of cloth literally yes but metaphorically no, - highlights insignificance and mocks the flag Personification- rising, .development of the flag power Second person : you or your Future tense: will modal verb, confident immortality of the flag 0
