1 Newsletter No. 25 - Term 3 Week 5 17 August 2017 Before and After School Supervision Dear Parents/Guardians, We have had a number of students arriving very early at school. This is a reminder that the school yard is not supervised before 8:45am and after 3:45pm, and teachers are not in the yard outside of these times. Students who require early drop off or late pick up, can be booked into OSH Club. The only current exception to this is on Tuesday and Thursday mornings when some students attend Breakfast Club in the Stadium from 8:15am. We are also concerned at the moment at the number of children climbing the large tree beside the Foundation playground. We know that climbing trees is fun, however, our duty of care is for the safety of children and, while on the school grounds, before, during and after school, we ask that students not be allowed to climb any of the trees on the school property. As stated above, the students are under parent supervision before 8:45am and after 3:45pm. After-school programs at Kalinda: We note that some families find it convenient for their children to remain at school to wait for after- school commitments (including Netball or Basketball training) which are conducted at school, but which generally do not commence until around 4:00pm. Please note, we advise families to make suitable arrangements for their children to be supervised during the period from the end of school until training begins. This may include supervision by their own family, another parent or via OSH Club. We strongly encourage all Kalinda families who have children attending after-school commitments to seek clarification from their club regarding the supervision of athletes (and their siblings) during training. Volunteer coaches deserve the full support of their player’s families. Please visit the school office if you have any questions regarding this message. Thank you for your ongoing support in this matter. Before and After School Supervision

Dear Parents/Guardians, We have had a number of students arriving very early at school. This is a reminder that the school yard is not supervised before 8:45am and after 3:45pm, and teachers are not in the yard outside of these times. Students who require early drop off or late pick up, can be booked into OSH Club. As stated above, the students are under parent supervision before 8:45am and after 3:45pm.

After-school programs at Kalinda: We note that some families find it convenient for their children to remain at school to wait for after-school commitments (including Netball or Basketball training) which are conducted at school, but which generally do not commence until around 4:00pm. Please note, we advise families to make suitable arrangements for their children to be supervised during the period from the end of school until training begins. What a busy week we have had! It has been terrific having the Japanese students and teachers visiting us. Our host families and our staff have all commented how children around the world can communicate and enjoy each other’s company, breaking through the language barrier. The children have been playing games together, working in class and having fun with their host families. Tomorrow we are off to Healesville Sanctuary to see our beautiful native animals. Let’s hope the crazy Melbourne weather will be kind to us, otherwise we will have a bus full of very cold children!

Visitors in 3/4P………. With much excitement, we have welcomed Toko and Saki (our Lily Vale students) into our classroom.

Toko and Saki have enjoyed browsing through a variety of picture story books, participated in our Art, Music, Japanese and Phys Ed lessons, and today were very busy in our SAKG Program.

On the menu for the next fortnight is:

Crunchy Chicken Katsu with Tonkatsu Sauce

Teriyaki Vegetables

Steamed Rice

As you can see, Toko and Saki, along with their host family Eden and Ella, have enjoyed crumbing our chicken.

Woolworths Earn & Learn is back and it is now easier than ever to earn valuable resources for our school. Last year we were very fortunate and benefited greatly from the program, boosting supplies in our classrooms and the library.

It's simple to participate. From Wednesday 26th July to Tuesday 19th September 2017, when you shop at Woolworths you can collect Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers from the checkout operator or through an online order and place them on a Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet. There’ll be one Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker for every $10 spent.

Once completed, simply place the Sticker Sheet in the Collection Box outside the main office.

PARENTS & FRIENDS NEWS The casserole bank has been renamed Kalinda Pantry. Justine Watson, in conjunction with Karen Klewer, one of our fantastic Integration Aides, is running this vital Pantry for our school community. Karen is also the Breakfast Club Coordinator. The Pantry runs on donations alone. If you are able to help out with making pre-made meals that can be frozen, basic and not too fancy, e.g. Lasagna, casserole or pasta bakes and curries, please contact Justine who will put you on a roster for Term 4. All meals must be dated, labelled with any instructions and a list of ingredients. These meals are kept in the staffroom or the canteen freezers. There is also an actual pantry shelf for non-perishable items. Maybe you would like to donate to this. Staple items, such as tins of soup, noodles, cereals etc or toiletries would be welcome. Please take note of the ‘Use By’ dates. If you, or someone you know of, is in need of this service, please contact the office, speak to Karen directly, or contact Justine on [email protected]
