In 2007, Jackson County Psychological
Services (JCPS) contacted Smoky
Mountain Information Systems, Inc
(SMIS) because they weren’t happy with
the EMR they were using: it was
inefficient and not meeting their needs.
They asked SMIS to create a new system,
from scratch, to their specifications. They
wanted a program that was truly designed for
mental & behavioral health, a true mental health
EMR. Our lead developers rose to the challenge and engineered a
comprehensive, user-friendly practice management system/EMR, based
on the JCPS wish list: PIMSY.
Six years later, JCPS is still a satisfied PIMSY EMR client and is using the
system to successfully grow their business: they’ve expanded from 30
users to over 100. “We are now functioning at a 50% faster recovery rate
for money and a 50% lower denial rate. You should really give SMIS time

After building PIMSY, we realized that there must be other practices out
there looking specifically for a mental and behavioral health EMR and
decided to try and match these practices with our incredible product. We
put the word out and found plenty of demand in the market. As our
client list grew, so did the system.
Today, PIMSY EMR is keeping up with the ever-changing landscape of
HIT (health information technology) and government regulation. In
2011, PIMSY Platinum 5.0 was ONC-ATCB Meaningful Use certified by
the Drummond Group and qualifies for the ARRA HITECH program. We
now offer 4 different tiers of PIMSY, providing a level of functionality and
price to meet our clients’ diverse needs and budgets. We offer
comprehensive, superior training and support, included in the price, for
which we are constantly receiving positive feedback.
PIMSY EMR continues to evolve based on the needs and suggestions of
our clients, and SMIS continues to add new features and functionality. What started as a project to
fulfill a wish list has developed into an enterprise level, comprehensive and flexible product that
seamlessly combines a practice management system with electronic medical records.
