How We Can Be Different

Page 14: Being Social: A Guide for Fraternity Men

“Stop telling prospective members what your organization does.  Start showing them what your organization can do for them.  Start suggesting ways that they can make a difference, immediately, within your organization.

That’s your challenge.  Get me excited about your club, your council, your committee, or your chapter.  Let me see why you love it.  Help me understand how it would make me enjoy my college experience more.  Help me see myself in it.”

“I hate Frats. My first two years of college were miserable. I went from class, to work, and then home...One day I met this goofy kid named Manfred Mecoy who asked if i wanted to go to play broomball with some of his friends. I didn’t realize until I got there that it was a recruitment event for SAE.

I met a lot of people that changed my view of Fraternities...I still hate Frats, but I love my Fraternity.

“When I arrived at Ol Miss in 1986, there was only one Fraternity I could join, Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Working to put myself through school, I could not accept the bid that was given to be...

Joe Clark, the advisor at Miss. Sigma, saw something in me. One night, when i returned to my dorm room, i found an envelope. In it, was a check for my first semesters dues, and a note that said “Pledge Meeting Tuesday at 7.”

It is because of Joe that I am an SAE today.
