Sight Words It is important for you to continue practising your sight words in order to identify them and confidently read and write them correctly. Remember sight words are those high frequency words we cannot stretch out. We need to be able to remember how to spell them and that’s why it is important we continue to practise them regularly. Your teacher will inform you of the sight words you need to practise on a daily basis on Seesaw. These words may have been identified as words to practise from your guided reading sessions or from your response to text writing. Reading Eggs Each day your teacher will assign you a lesson on Reading Eggs to complete. This lesson may have a phonics or sight word focus for you to practise. Remember you need to complete the assigned lesson on the assigned day otherwise you won’t be able to complete Counting Complete the Race to 100 game with an adult (see below/on seesaw). You need a dice from any board game around the house (or use an online dice like this one https://www.online-stopwatch.com/chance-games/roll-a-dice/) and coloured pencils. Roll the dice and colour in that many squares, beginning at 1. Continue until you get to 100 - make sure you count each number as you colour it in after each roll. Ask a family member to explain their ideas too. LISC We are learning to: explain our maths thinking I know I am successful when I can - give my answer - explain why I think that is the answer using numbers and maths words like: more, less, same, equal, higher, lower, add, subtract - listen to another person’s answer and reasoning considerately Verbally record your ideas (making sure you try your best to achieve the success criteria) and upload this to seesaw. Getting ready to go back to school It is almost time to go back to school and learn from our Kindergarten classrooms with our teachers and friends! Let’s begin to get ready to go back to school together. Here is a list of things you should do this afternoon (or throughout the week) to physically and emotionally get ready to go back to school: 1. Try on your school uniform to check it still fits. Last time we were at school we wore winter uniforms, but now it is time for our summer uniforms. Check your shirt/pants/dress, shoes, socks, jacket, hat. Pack your school bag with the things you need in it (including spare underwear/change of clothes). 2. Discuss what you want to have in your lunchbox with your grown up - will you have sandwiches, fruit/vege sticks, chips, a muffin, a muesli bar? You might want to practice using your lunchbox this week at home! 3. Think about what your school day will look like and tell your grown up everything from going in the car, walking in the school gate, putting your bag on the book, sitting on your spot on the carpet, reading a book, reading groups, writing, eating time, playtime, maths groups, maths, eating time and playtime again, art/sport/library and then going home at the side gate. See if you can remember all the things we do each day and tell an adult.

the lesson assigned to you tomorrow.

Fractions - HalvesThis week we are going to explore fractions - we arelearning to identify half of a whole object (like a pieceof paper or a shape). How many ways can you fold a piece of paper in HALF?

Using some scrap paper or A4 pieces of paper, explorethe different ways you can fold paper to find halves. Canyou use a small piece of paper to fold it into half? Whatabout a large piece of paper? How do you make sure yourhalves are exactly the same size each time? Can you fold a triangle piece of paper in half? What about a circle piece of paper?Which shape is easiest to fold in half? Why do you thinkthis is?

Morning - English Middle - Maths Afternoon - Visual Arts

ReadingListen to Miss O’Neill read the whole text Brother Moon onseesaw and check in - did you infer who Great-GrandpaLiman’s brother was correctly?

Response to TextAfter viewing the video on seesaw, check in… Did yousee the same clues as Miss O’Neill when you wereinferencing? Look at your response to text from yesterdayand check in with an adult to reflect on your inferencing.

Choose any page from the text and talk about theclues that help you infer who the Brother is. You mayalso like to repeat this on other pages from the textfor some more practice. The video of Miss O’Neillreading the text and talking about the picture andword clues is a big helper for you - maybe you foundmore clues you can share too.

Talk, draw, write and then record and share onseesaw with your teacher.

LISCWe are learning to inferI know I am successful when I can

- find picture and word clues in the book to helpme investigate a question

- make connections between the world around meand the clues in the book

Sight WordsIt is important for you to continue practising your sightwords in order to identify them and confidently read andwrite them correctly. Remember sight words are thosehigh frequency words we cannot stretch out. We need tobe able to remember how to spell them and that’s why it isimportant we continue to practise them regularly. CountingThis week we’re going to have some fun countingBACKWARDS because we are counting down to goingback to school!Follow along with the video, moving your body andreading the numbers to help you count back from 100.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jMmZaFvRpE

Number Talk - Which one doesn’t belong?Look carefully at the dot images below. Which one doesn’tbelong? Explain your thinking and reasoning. Ask a familymember to tell you their ideas too.

3D SpaceWe already know cubes, cones, spheres and cylinders are3D shapes. Watch this video as a reminder about what wealready know.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guNdJ5MtX1ACan you find 2 examples of each 3D shape in your home?An example might be a soccer ball is a sphere. Challenge

Join Ms Vannucci in the Kindergarten Art Zoom at1:30pm today. Please ensure you bring along some plainpaper, a lead pencil and coloured pencils/crayons/textas.

If you don’t wish to access the zoom, draw a picture ofyourself in your summer school uniform to prepare to getready to go back to school! Don’t forget a hat, socks, shoes and school bag in the picture.

Morning - English Middle - Maths Afternoon - Design and Make

ReadingListen to Miss O’Neill reading the informative text ‘Goingto the Moon’ on seesaw. This book is factual - it is full ofreal information about things that have happened.

Response to TextToday you listened to an informative book, not animaginative book. So we can’t retell a story, or make up anew ending. When we read factual books that are informative, we candraw, write and talk about things that we LEARNED fromreading the text.Draw, write and talk about 3 things that you learntfrom reading today’s informative text.An example of one thing you might draw/write about:

I learnt that 3 men went tothe moon on a spaceship calledApollo 11.

Sight WordsIt is important for you to continue practising your sightwords in order to identify them and confidently read andwrite them correctly. Remember sight words are thosehigh frequency words we cannot stretch out, we need tobe able to remember how to spell them and that’s why it isimportant we continue to practise them regularly. Your

CountingThis week we’re going to have some fun countingBACKWARDS because we are counting down to goingback to school!Follow along with the video, moving your body andreading the numbers to help you count back from 100.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jMmZaFvRpE

Number Talk - Which one doesn’t belong?Look closely at these 4 images and think about which onedoesn’t belong and why. Remember there is always morethan one answer!Explain your ideas to an adult, and ask them to share theirthoughts with you. Did either your or your adult’s thinkingchange?

Crafternoon FunWatch this video to get ready to prepare to go to the moonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEHBrmZxAf8Using aluminium foil, can you transform one of yourtoys into an astronaut ready to go to the moon? You can get creative; use a stuffed toy, barbie, ninjaturtle, doll or action figure as your astronaut! Uploadyour handiwork to seesaw to show to your teacher(and maybe they might share with the whole class).

Remember astronaut’s need:- a space suit that has no holes, so that no skin or

fur is showing! Otherwise the astronaut's skinwould freeze in outer space because it is so cold.

- a helmet keeping the cold space air out, andwarm oxygen to breathe (including an oxygentank on their back!)

LISCWe are learning to: think creativelyI know I am successful when I can:

- design and make; using my imagination- follow a design brief (the things the astronaut

needs above)

This lesson may have aphonics or sight word focus for you to practise.Remember you need to complete the assigned lesson onthe assigned day otherwise you won’t be able to completethe lesson assigned to you tomorrow.

FractionsUsing your knowledge of 2D shapes from our learning lastweek, draw a line and then cut each shape in half (seeresource below/on seesaw). Here are some examples of shapes that have been cut inhalf correctly:

3D SpaceWatch this video and be on the look out for some 2D and3D shapes that we know!https://fuse.education.vic.gov.au/Resource/LandingPage?objectId=7bb5253f-1f1e-405a-8df6-65b243e1b025Can you spot the cylinder? What part of the obstaclecourse was it?Can you see some 2D shapes?Explain to an adult all of the shapes you can see in thevideo. You might need to watch it a few times!

ReflectionAfter completing today’s Maths learning activities reflecton the questions below and discuss your responses with afamily member.

Thursday 14 October

Morning - English Middle - Maths Afternoon - PE/Fitness

ReadingListen to this story on youtube today, read by an astronautin outer space!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wV8yw7iV8wThis will help you get ready for your response to textwhere you will need to think like an astronaut...

Response to TextAfter listening to an imaginative text and an informativetext this week we are going to use all of our spaceknowledge today to solve a problem.

The problem is: we need to send an animal into spaceto do some space research on the moon!

We want to send an animal into space - can youdesign their space ship and their space suit for them?Remember animals need different things to humansin space.

You can draw, label and write a sentence about theanimal’s space ship and their space suit. You shouldalso record your voice speaking about the problemsthat an animal might have if they travel into space. What things will the animal need to pack with them togo into space? Write a list of all the things they willneed to pack with them (food, water, toy, bed, etc).

CountingPlay the Race to 100 Game (see below/on seesaw) withan adult. This time, think about how many rolls you think itwill take to get to 100. Keep track of how many rolls it tookto get to 100 - maybe use tally marks, or use pencils ascounters to record your rolls.

Number TalkLook carefully at these images and think about which onedoes not belong. Explain your thinking to an adult.

3D SpaceToday we are going to investigate the 3D objects that weknow confidently, so it would help if you can find one ofeach shape around your home to use in your investigation(eg a ball, a tissue box, a can of tomatoes, an ice creamcone).

Join Mrs McCarlie in the Kindergarten PE/Fitness Zoomat 1:45pm today. Please ensure you bring along a drinkbottle and wear appropriate clothing/footwear forexercising. You may wish to wear your Sport SchoolUniform so you can gain points for your School SportHouse.

If you don’t wish to access the zoom you can do cosmickids moon yoga!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9W8iV4AJYQ

Page 11: Bell, de Havilland & Oxford

LISCWe are learning to: come up with a solution to a problemI know I am successful when I can:

- design a course of action- identify any problems that might occur

Sight WordsIt is important for you to continue practising your sightwords in order to identify them and confidently read andwrite them correctly. Remember sight words are thosehigh frequency words we cannot stretch out, we need tobe able to remember how to spell them and that’s why it isimportant we continue to practise them regularly. Yourteacher will inform you of the sight words you need topractise on a daily basis on Seesaw. Friday 15 October

Morning - English Middle - Maths Afternoon - Library Story Time

ReadingListen to this story that we already know called ‘Give MeSome Space’ as read by an astronaut in space!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeCxxMZjlFoIt will look familiar to all children as we listened to thisstory LIVE earlier in the year during NationalSimultaneous Story Time!

Response to TextToday you are going to verbally respond to a range ofhigher order thinking questions. It should take placesimilar to a discussion (and less of an interview). An adultcan ask you these questions and you can respond byspeaking and then discussing back and forth. To extendyour learning you may choose to answer the first questionby writing 1-2 sentences.

1. Do you want to go to space? Why or why not?2. Is the moon important? How do you know?3. What is the difference between the moon and the

sun?4. Do you think that animals should go into space?

Is it safe for them? Is it safe for humans to gointo space?

5. What would be the best part of being anastronaut? What would be the worst part of beingan astronaut?

6. What is something you are wondering aboutspace…

These words mayhave been identified as words to practise from yourguided reading sessions or from your response to text

CountingUse the zig zag 100 chart (below/on seesaw) to create apattern by colouring each square. You might do red, yellow, orange (an ABC pattern) or you could do all thenumbers with 1 at the beginning in pink, then the numberswith 2 at the beginning in yellow. It is up to you! Explainyour pattern to an adult and don’t forget to say eachnumber aloud as you colour.

Number Talk - Which one doesn’t belong? Can you make some connections to these images? Why do you think your teachers have chosen theseimages for today’s number talk? What do you know about them?Look carefully at these images and choose which onedoes not belong. Explain your thinking to an adult.

Join Mrs De Horta for K-2 Story Time on Zoom at 1:30pmtoday.

If you don’t wish to access the zoom, choose a nice comfyspot in the house or outside and read your favourite bookto an adult or friend, or a toy.

writing.

Reading EggsEach day your teacher will assign you a lesson onReading Eggs to complete. This lesson may have aphonics or sight word focus for you to practise.

Problem Solving - FractionsToday you are going to explore your lunch and makeit mathematical by hunting for halves. For each snack or bit of your lunch you have today, see if you can halve it - either by cutting the whole inhalf with an adult’s help, or by splitting it into equalhalves if it is a collection.Watch Miss O’Neill halve her lunch on Seesaw as anexample.Upload to seesaw a video of yourself exploring halvesin your lunch today for verbal feedback from yourteacher.

Learning Intention and Success CriteriaWe are learning to: find halves of wholes or collectionsI know i am successful when I can:

- identify halves of a whole as equal in size- find half of a small collection by sharing equally

into 2 groups

ReflectionAfter completing today’s Maths learning activities reflecton the questions below and discuss your responses with afamily member.
