Kindy Dance Group - Year 6

As part of an SRC initiative, some Year 6 students have created a Kindy dance group. The kindergarten students love dancing and we saw an opportunity for them to have plenty of fun. Whilst learning the dance routine, they are playing some fun games and they always have a huge smile on their face. All the Kindy participants are so enthu-siastic about coming to learn the dance. If you want to listen to the song at home with your children, we are dancing to High Hopes by Panic at the Disco. The dance classes are under the COLA on at recess and/or lunch on Monday and Tuesday. Table Tennis Tables Our table tennis tables have finally arrived and it’s full steam ahead for our Year 6 students who have been given the first opportunity to practise their skills. Purchased from mufti day funds from a SRC initiative, the table tennis tables are a welcome addition to our playground activities. Located outside our library, the 2 tables require a student pass to encourage safe and fair play in the area.

Bellevue Hill Colour Fun run Bellevue Hill Public School will be holding the School Fun-Run as a major fundraising event this year on 27th October 2019. We’re doing it to raise much needed money to buy necessary equipment for the school & also farewell our year 6 students. We would love you to join us for this fun family event. Students received a booklet & letter on Thurs-day outlining how to sign up for the event. Please read the booklet to see the prizes the children can win whilst they fundraise for the school.

To sign up go to schoolfundraising.com.au and create a student profile page. Everything to do with your fundraising revolves around this page. All fundraising will be online. To start fundraising online, go to your student profile page at schoolfundraising.com.au and share your online fundraising link. We would love to welcome parents and family members to attend the School Fun-Run. If you have any queries or would also like to volunteer to help on the day, please contact Mandy Linsley on [email protected] or call 0424977736.

National Bandanna Day

This year, BHPS participated in National Bandanna Day which is a fundraiser run by CanTeen Austral-ia. CanTeen supports young Australians that have been diagnosed with cancer, ensuring they do not face the journey alone. BHPS were very excited to receive lots of colourful and fun bandannas and supported the cause en-thusiastically. After selling bandannas over 2 days, BHPS broke the school’s record for the most ban-dannas sold in support of the day. It was wonderful to see the BHPS community in a

sea of bright and eye catching bandannas!

Student Wellbeing - You Can Do It

Another book that we have looked at is called ‘In my heart— a book of feelings’ by Jo Wick. We discussed that it’s normal to have all these different emotions—we can’t be happy all the time!

It helps to be able to put a name to an emo-tion and to use some of our strategies to help us calm down, or cheer up, if we’re not feeling so wonderful.

In KM we like to talk about our feelings, how are you feeling today?

Recognising our feelings in KM

In KM we have been looking at our emotions, what they mean and how we can control them. We read a book called ‘The underwater fancy dress parade’ by Davina Bell, which tells the story of a young boy who feels very anxious about a school parade.

We discussed how anxiety and feeling worried can sometimes feel like butterflies in our stom-ach, or make our heart feel like horses galloping. We know that these feelings in our body are un-comfortable and we discussed ways to help calm ourselves down. Some ideas were: ‘We can breathe deeply.’ ‘We can count to 10.’ ‘We can lie down and think of a happy place.’ We also talked about how we might be feeling a bit worried or scared about our big BHPS Musical which is coming up. We decided that the more we practiced, the more confident we feel and that makes us feel excited!

TRASH FREE TUESDAY

Congratulations to 1C for having 18 Trash-Free lunches and earning the title of Trash-Free Class of the week! Please keep the pot plant in a sunny spot for the week.

This Tuesday, The Green Team planted the Wool-worths Discovery Garden Collectables. The first thing we had to do was find a partner or a group of three and then were given a plant from Miss Levy. Everyone took the soil pods from the mini pots and placed them on a saucer in a tower. Next we slowly added the water and it started to expand. We each took some soil from the saucer and filled our cardboard pots to half way. Then we placed the seed paper on the soil and lightly pressed it down. After that we placed more soil on top of the seed paper and added a drop of water to keep it moist. We then labelled the plants to keep a record of how long they will take to grow. We suggested using the camomile flowers and once they have grown we will make the teachers a pot of tea!
