at BELMONT UNIVERSITY
Psychological Science
Students studying psychology at Belmont University come
from all over the U.S. and have a variety of career goals.
Many of our students are interested in clinical or counseling
psychology and pursue graduate studies and careers in
those areas. However, we also have students who are pre-
occupational therapy, pre-physical therapy, pre-med, pre-law,
or who wish to pursue a career in other areas of psychology
including child psychology, industrial-organizational
psychology, social and personality psychology, or marriage
and family therapy. Our curriculum is structured according
to guidelines from the American Psychological Association
and provides hands-on, high impact experiences that will
make you competitive for excellent jobs and quality
graduate programs.
Our laboratory facilities are some of the finest for
undergraduate education in psychology. You can research
questions such as: “How do brain waves change during
sleeping and dreaming?” “How are attention and
concentration processes affected while playing action and
non-action video games?” “How do you train rats to solve
problems in a radial arm maze?” These and many other
questions can be explored with faculty and other students
in our courses and laboratories. In studying psychology
at Belmont, you can also study abroad, work in exciting
internship placements, form lasting friendships and
engage in community service.

“The department is like a family and the professors are invested in every student’s success. I gained a great education in psychological science, including presenting my research at conferences and developing my leadership skills through roles in Psi Chi. I am confidently pursuing my future goals as a student in Belmont University’s Doctorate of Occupational Therapy Program.”

“The best part about the Psychological Science Department is how inclusive and supportive the faculty and other students are, both as an undergraduate and alumni applying to PhD programs in clinical psychology. The variety of courses in the department absolutely prepared me for graduate school. The faculty were just wonderful, fun and supportive people to be around!”
