BENEFITS OF COMPUTERIZATION

Computers have made the world a small place. Computers have proved their worth in all spheres

& areas of life. Without computers, the man of today is not capable of doing his activities.Computer has made the universe like a global village. Due to their speed, accuracy, memory andother characteristics, computers are used in all spheres of life. These machines are used on alarge scale in Banking Sector, Railways, Insurance Companies, Hospitals, Business Houses,Universities, Transportation, Space technology, Engineering, and Science etc. Some of thebenefits are as follows.

EDUCATIONAL ASPECTS

Computer proved itself a revolutionary machine for the welfare of student of today. Now astudent can make an easy research work, make his assignments, highlights his objectives of goaland make his abilities to be progressive. Computers have become an integral part of education atlevels primary or higher. Computers have enriched the learning process at various levels of education. At higher level, students of Engineering and Science can derive benefits fromcomputers. By learning computer programs they can solve their problems with the aid of computers. Computers solve mathematical equations and other scientific problems very quickly.Besides, a part of education, schools, colleges and universities are using computers for variousutilities viz. pay rolls, time-tables etc.

COMPUTERIZATION IN INDUSTRIES

Computers are being used on a large scale in all industries larger or smaller. Computers controlthe production efficiency in various industries. In steel industry, the accurate cutting of steelsheets into desired length is controlled by computer systems. Computers are responsible forcontrolling machines. The maintenance of temperature, pressure to a controlled level. Thechemical plants are controlled by computers more effectively than to control it manually. Indrilling and rolling, computers play a crucial role. Computers can monitor and regulate theprocess of refining in refineries without human intervention. The computers can detect the faultsin gas pipe lines and other systems and help to bring the process back into normal.

BENEFITS IN BANKING SECTOR

Banks are among the large organizations to invest heavily in computers. Today, the banking inurban areas is totally dependent on the computers. The computerization in the banking sector isnecessary because of massive volume of different types of transactions. Computers have beeninstalled in branches at different counters via Saving Bank, Current Account, Cash Credit,Account etc. Cheques are handled by the computers at clearing houses. By computerization,many problems have been solved. Balances are automatically tallied in the accounts. Customers

can obtain printed statements of their accounts. Automatic Teller Machines have been installedin the branch premises of various banks.

COMPUTERIZATION IN MEDICAL SCIENCES

Computers are used in the various fields of medicines viz. Hospital Administration, Monitoringthe patients condition, diagnosis of a diseases, medical research, laboratories, experimentationetc. In the diagnosis of Cancer, Heart disease etc. computers play an important role and canmonitor the patients condition. Scanning instruments are attached to the patients and theattending doctor can notify the condition of the patient and start the right treatment. Thecomputers can assist in prescribing the correct dosage after monitoring the disease. Thesemachines can effectively control the blood pressure, heart beats, and level of glucose in blood. Inhospitals computers keep the records of indoor and outdoor patients. Moreover, students of

medical sciences can now check the live operations carrying on in the different hospitals throughinternet.

TRANSPORTATION

Computer is a source for traffic department to check any violence in the road moving vehicles,so they can control the traffic. Today, without computers, working in the Railway Departments,Airlines, Shipping has become impossible. Railway time tables and other timing schedules areprepared with the assistance of computers. The Railway traffic has been increased to a very largeextent and it has become impossible to control this traffic without the aid of computer. Similarlycomputers are increasingly used in Airlines to control air traffic, reservation and cancellation of tickets.

IN INSURANCE COMPANIES

The insurance companies require their data of their customers to be processed efficiently andcarefully. Computer has a remarkable achievement in this regard. The requirements of computers in this sector are similar to those in banking sector. A large number of files relating tocustomers policies are to be updated. Calculation of bonus, premium, and interest is to be doneon a large scale. With the introduction of computers in this sector, the burden on the employeeshas been reduced and statements of accounts are ready in no time.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

In this sector computer has proved itself more useful than any other resource or machine. Todaydifferent and enormous softwares are produced to make science easy. These softwares are usedin planning, designing, sketching, making models and processing the engineering data.

SPACE TECHNOLOGY & CLIMATE PREDICTION

The computer has played a leading role in space technology. Satellites are sent into space with

the aid of computers. These satellites are designed with computers. In the weather forecast,computers have been proved very useful.

COMMUNICATION APPLICATIONS

Telephone exchanges have been computerized to handle increasing volume of calls. Throughcomputer networks the calls can be transmitted at a very fast speed. The transmission of telegrams, fax messages has become very fast.
