In the K4 class, they have started working hard this year. They know their short vowel sounds, and they are beginning to learn some consonants. Along with all this, they are also learning to count to 40. The students are learning the pledge and alma mater also. The K4 class has been learning fire safety drills, and has visited the Fire Department in Blakely. They are working on adding, subtracting and counting coins. The K3 class is not wasting any time this year when it comes to learning. They are learning colors, shapes and already counting to ten. While working on their letter sounds and formation for “a”, “b”, “c”, and ”d,” they have also just finished their Our God Made Me book.

This year K5 is learning about community helpers, and even

had a day to dress up like a community helper. The students are learning vowels, consonants and the sounds they make. They will also be making a trip this month to Paradise Pumpkin Patch.

First grade is off to a great start this year, they started by studying owls and making owl art pictures. They are working on adding, subtracting and counting coins. Even though first grade has been very busy they set aside some time to make Taylor a poster and sent it to Shepherd’s so she could hang it on her wall. They love having P.E. everyday and going to karate, twirling, gymnastics and some of the students go to piano!

Visitors might get a little frightened when walking into the second grade classrooms this month! The rooms are

decorated with spiders, bats, and ghost made by the children. They have been writing ghost stories and reading Halloween books. When it comes to language they have been learning special sounds, types of punctuation, suffixes, prefixes, root words, compound words, contractions, and syllabicating.

Third grade has had an exciting year! They have had Johnny Appleseed day. Special guest Anna Mathis dressed up as Johnny Appleseed. All day the kids ate caramel apples, apple pie, and watched videos about Johnny Appleseed. When the kids were asked what was their favorite part of Johnny Appleseed day, Meredith Joiner responded by saying, “My favorite part was making a timeline about Johnny Appleseed’s life, and eating a caramel apple.” All the grades are excited and eager to learn.
