There are up to four bursaries available to members of the Common Room to carry out projects on Teaching and Learning.

The purpose of the bursary is to:

·         provide another opportunity for professional development;·         act as a catalyst for collaboration as part of a professional learning community;·         offering a focus for partnership between universities and schools/colleges;·         deal with and initiating change;·         manage sustainable school improvement.

We would like to hear from anyone who is interested in developing and exploring their teaching and learning work at Berkhamsted.

The bursary is for one academic year only.

The awardA bursary of £750 is provided to the successful applicant for the academic year. The support sessions at the Institute of Education are provided in addition to the bursary itself.

SupportThe Vice-Principal (Education) will provide ‘in-house’ support over the course of the bursary. There will also be research sessions provided by the Expansive Education Network based at the Institute for Education in London. These sessions will allow you to design your research and work with colleagues from other schools.

Expectation/outcomes of work:You will be expected to attend around 3 research seminars at the Institute of Education, London (the first one is on the 1st October 5.30-7.30pm).

A final written piece will be produced by the end of the academic year and will be shared with the wider school community. In addition, you will be expected to:

• Lead school inset sessions;• Provide copies for the staff development library;• Contribute to the Berkhamsted Teaching and Learning online forum;• Attend the mentoring sessions;• Mentor the cohort for the following academic year 2014-2015.

The application process A letter of application with a brief outline of the area you are interested in as well as how it links to the department development/school development plan should be... We are happy to consider joint applications within departments or across departments. A short interview will be held within a week of the closing date.

EligibilityYou may apply for the bursary if you have completed one year’s teaching at the school and completed the GTP/NQT/probationary year. All subjects are considered.
