A. H .EL1.N, Svtretary. Prices Advance and the Closing Records Gains. The closing session of the stock mar¬ ket for the week gave a pleasant final exhlbltlon of strong undertone nnd left a range of gains which encotiraged the bulls. The market opened with a show of strength and trading assumed an actlvlty which brought ?ome irregu- larity, but prlces in general held firm. The movement broadened the trading list, and toward the end of the ilrst hour there vyis an Increase of bulllsh- ness that sent tho shorts to cover and forced prices to hlgher levels. The specials showed especially good tone and advanced easily. The standarda in the main were punhased. and ln Union Paclflc and United States Steel there was an impressive strength that carrled eentimcnt to the buylng slde. There was some questlon as to the kind of buylng behlnd the market, but tradara were favorably di-posed to bet¬ ter prices, and there was little Interest exhiblted in the bear slde. except in a few certain lssucs. While Amerlcan Locomotive held a strong position, Baldwln Locomotive was heavy. Dur¬ ing tho first half hour Atchison was in- cllned to lower prkee, but at the close this stock had recovered and showed a galn. People's Gas was one of the strong stocks. The equipment stocks as a whole were thought to be in a position ready to show some strong up- ward movement if all condltions were favorable. ("orn Products touched a new hlgh flgure fur the fOOXt and As- sociated Oil of Callfornla scored an ad¬ vance over its sharp rise on Frlday. Near the close the market had a re- lapse and prices sold off from thelr hlgh points. Bear eelling aided some prnflt taklng ln lowerlng prices, but there appeared to be ample buylng strength to absorb oll offerlngs and keep quotations on a range of lmprove- ment over Frlday's flnal prlces. There w4-re a BOffldent nmnber of strong features to give the market lndivldu- ality. though the volume of trading yesterday represented only falr ac¬ tlvlty. the total number of shares being 2t> 1,700. Prices Advance and the ClosingRecords Gains.

The closing session of the stock mar¬

ket for the week gave a pleasant finalexhlbltlon of strong undertone nnd lefta range of gains which encotiraged thebulls. The market opened with a showof strength and trading assumed an

actlvlty which brought ?ome irregu-larity, but prlces in general held firm. The movement broadened the tradinglist, and toward the end of the ilrsthour there vyis an Increase of bulllsh-ness that sent tho shorts to cover andforced prices to hlgher levels. The

specials showed especially good tone

and advanced easily. The standardain the main were punhased. and ln

Union Paclflc and United States Steelthere was an impressive strength thatcarrled eentimcnt to the buylng slde. There was some questlon as to the kindof buylng behlnd the market, but

tradara were favorably di-posed to bet¬

ter prices, and there was little Interestexhiblted in the bear slde. except in a

few certain lssucs. While AmerlcanLocomotive held a strong position,Baldwln Locomotive was heavy. Dur¬

ing tho first half hour Atchison was in-cllned to lower prkee, but at the closethis stock had recovered and showed a

galn. People's Gas was one of thestrong stocks. The equipment stocksas a whole were thought to be in a

position ready to show some strong up-ward movement if all condltions were

favorable. ("orn Products touched a

new hlgh flgure fur the fOOXt and As-sociated Oil of Callfornla scored an ad¬vance over its sharp rise on Frlday.Near the close the market had a re-

lapse and prices sold off from thelr

hlgh points. Bear eelling aided some

prnflt taklng ln lowerlng prices, butthere appeared to be ample buylngstrength to absorb oll offerlngs and

keep quotations on a range of lmprove-ment over Frlday's flnal prlces. There

w4-re a BOffldent nmnber of strongfeatures to give the market lndivldu-ality. though the volume of tradingyesterday represented only falr ac¬

tlvlty. the total number of shares being2t> 1,700.
