Your adventure begins in St John’s, the oldest city in North America, full of character and a perfect base to explore the wildlife and history of the Avalon Peninsula. Head north and follow the beautiful coastline through towns charmingly called Heart’s Content and Harbour Grace. Terra Nova National Park provides abundant hiking trails and opportunities to view whales from the rugged shore. Your journey meanders through Notre Dame Junction and Humber Valley then north to Gros Morne National Park where glacier carved fjords adorn the scenery. Continue along the coast and absorb the rich history of Port au Choix before arriving in St Anthony. Explore nearby L’Anse aux Meadows the only authenticated Viking site in North America. This unique UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts re-enactments of Viking life. Your adventure ends with a fl ight back to the UK via St John’s.
Begin your tour in St John’s, an excellent base to visit Cape Spear National Historic Site, famously the most eastern point of North America, and Signal Hill with its spectacular views of the city. Explore the surrounding Avalon Penninsula where wildlife is in its element from whales and seabirds at Witless Bay to caribou herds in the Avalon Wilderness Reserve. Follow the Discovery Trail to the quaint, historic town of Trinity, a world away from modern day life’s hustle and bustle. Stumble across friendly coastal communities until you reach Twillingate, part of ‘Iceberg Alley’, renowned for the number of these amazing formations usually found there. An optional trip to Fogo or the Change Islands is like stepping back in time. As you head back to St John’s stay overnight in Terra Nova National Park with its rugged wilderness.
