“I was 13 when I took up kayaking

and since then there is no turning back.

From being hydrophobic to becoming a

kayaker, I stayed committed and faced all

my fears. I participated in my first

international event, The Ganga Kayak

Festival in 2014 when I became the

Youngest Indian female paddler and in

2019 won its overall female Champion

title. I feel a sense of pride sometimes

when I realize that I am the only girl

kayaker in the entire nation to have done

some of the major and historic epic white

water rapids but at the same time feel the

need to promote this daring game.

Hence, I am on a mission to inspire

more girls to take up this extreme sport.

Kayaking is not just a mere game for

me but a lifestyle and DIT gave me the

opportunity to live by it. Being an athlete it

was important for me to find a university

that would support me in my pursuits. I

could have not found a better institution

than DIT University to realize my dream.

Studying in this college allowed me

to pursue my passion without being

pressured into the academic mold. I

found myself being able to compete in

most of the tournaments on yearly basis

while being supported by the college and

it’s staff. The vast network of support I

continue receiving from DIT allows me

to excel in both the sports I engage in

and my studies. The immense academic

support, inspiration and appreciation I

receive here will indeed help me soar

“It was not easy for me to come out of

my comfort zone, I was always an active

student who used to take part in all the

activities and I thought I'll be leaving that

behind with my secondary school. But

as I joined DIT, I was surprised to see

the vast opportunities they have been

providing to the students to showcase

their skill set and the platform to harness

it. I decided to make the most out of it

which led me towards forming of a new

technical club along with my friends.

Alongside, I also developed a new

skill of graphic designing which was

a completely different path from my

course, through which I even became

the Design Head for our several college

magazines. Placements played a crucial

role in harnessing my leadership skills,

being a student placement representative

helped me grow professionally for taking

challenges of corporate world. I got

recently placed with LIDO Learning for the

role of Business Development Executive

at an annual package of 10LPA. Amidst

this I even planned to study abroad for

which I cleared IELTS with 7.5 bands

and got an offer for MS in Data Science

from Macquarie University. In my entire

college journey with DITU, I was provided

with every resource I ever required which

truly made me stand with the university’s

ideology of IMAGINE, ASPIRE AND

ACHIEVE.”

Acing rapids and getting through raging rivers with NAINA ADHIKARIAt the age of 13, when the only fun

that every kid craves for is returning

back from school and grabbing the TV

remote, Naina Adhikari, our English

Hons. student took up Kayaking as her

passion and made a leap to mark her

name everywhere possible. She won her

first Best Debut Award at Ganga Kayak

Festival in 2014, which pumped her to get

into the sport seriously. Since then, there’s

been no looking back. In 2018 she was

the gold medalist at Delhi Olympic

Games, further to which she won 2

bronze medals in 2019 National Canoe

Slalom Championship and then a silver

medal in Ladakh River Festival 2019.

Another feather to her cap was winning

the Overall Female Championship and

Best Indian Female Paddler Award at

Ganga Kayak Festival 2019. She recently

made her place at the second and third

position in Boater Cross at Ganga Kayak

Festival, 2020.

Haasshh! Isn’t this super adventurous?

But did Naina stop here? No she didn’t

actually. Her craze for

kayaking is thrilling her even more as she

has been sponsored GoPro India athlete

and brand sponsored

athlete for NRS which is the biggest

kayaking gear company in the world.

Becoming its India Ambassador at

such a young age is certainly a great

accomplishment for our super amazing

girl and we certainly have our

eyes set on what all Naina is about to

explore in future.

Mohammad Dilnawaz Azmi details his

internships while pursuing Mechanical

Engineering with us. He took up his first

internship with the National Institute of

Solar Energy (NISE) where he worked on

two major projects of Solar Air Drier and

Solar Thermal. Based on his learnings at

NISE, he has drafted a research paper on

his work on integration of PV and SWHS

technology, which is currently under review

for publication.

It’s a delight to watch our students grill

their skills towards their passion. And just

not to stop here, Dilnawaz also worked

with Scania India in the area of parts

process, where he’s now working on

being part of the company’s R&D Team.

His focus is towards utilizing his learnings

and knowledge of solar energy to develop

sustainable transport with minimal carbon

emissions

We were just discussing about our

engineering students, and here’s another

gem we are proud of. Akshay Kumar, our

B.Tech Electrical student from the batch of

2013-2017 received a huge success soon

after completing his graduation with us.

His research proposal ‘Performance

Analysis of Double-Gate MOSFET based

ICs for RF Wireless Communications’ got

selected at the University of KwaZulu-

Natal, South Africa, for the master’s

programme.

But not alone the books, his cocurriculums

are exceptional too! Akshay is the

founding member and Director of GISR

Foundation, a not-for-profit organization

engaged in providing education for

the girl child. With more than 3,000

active members, the foundation gives

free education to over 20 girls and also

conducts research conferences, global

summits, FDPs and award summits.24
