Founded in 2001 and based in Barcelona, Pildo Labs is recognized as one of the global players in the development of advanced products and services for air navigation improved GNSS (GPS basics, GBAS, EGNOS). This leadership is the result of our involvement since its inception in the most strategic projects with European and international institution, like for example Pildo involvement in the three first implementation projects of Eurocontrol (see www.ecacnav.com/PBN/Implementation Projects)

SHERPA project proposes a regional collaborative approach in support to European Eastern region countries, towards the implementation of GNSS enabled operations in the civil aviation sector.Several working groups will guide the States towards the understanding of the generic guidance material developed by Eurocontrol, in coordination with ICAO, in support to APV procedures implementation.

This helicopter-based project aims at completing the operational implementation of procedures based on GNSS into the rotorcraft domain. The proposed activities are well endorsed and aligned with the main European rotorcraft manufacturers and operators strategies, towards the full implementation of GNSS based operations, and in particular enhanced by EGNOS.

Best practices and resources for PBN (GNSS) implementation

PBN (GNSS) Implementation Practical Examples

BACKGROUND

What's PBN?

GNSS assets for PBN

PBN resolutions

ICAO Performance-based Navigation (PBN) concept was born to face the demands on airspace capacity optimization due to the continue growth of aviation. PBN defines performance requirements for aircraft navigating on an ATS route, terminal procedure or in a designated airspace. It relies on the performances and capabilities of equipment onboard the aircraft, shifting from sensor-based to performance-based navigation.

PBN directly benefits from satellite-system assets (no ground infrastructure required), being GNSS able to be used for all PBN operations. In particular, RNP APCH Operations can be implemented only relying on the use of GNSS systems,

th37 ICAO Assembly (Oct’10) through its Resolution A37-11

states that all instrument runway ends should implement RNP APCH procedures with vertical guidance (down to LPV or LNAV/VNAV, but including as well LNAV-only minima), by 2016.

as a sensor for primary means of navigation.

OBJECTIVESStates in ICAO European Region that wish to implement RNP APCH will need some guidance through that process. This workshop aims to support Civil Aviation Authorities on RNP APCH implementation within their airspace, by providing the means for:- Basic understanding on GNSS based operations within the PBN Concept, in particular on RNP-APCH operations- Basic training to define an strategy for the introduction of RNP-APCH operations at national level, as well as generic understanding on the required means in support
