STATEMEMENT

Clusters take more account of the sustainable approach to their suppliers in their selection.

To enable all stakeholders to make a choice easier for suppliers and promote a ripple ef-

fect, we have chosen to check the financial status of partners to be sure on their profitabi-

lity. It is necessary to know the economic operation partners if they use trade agreements

with other local businesses, if they have grants that allow them to work or they are com-

pletely financially independent.

All these steps are in order to create a brand around the WEST (Well Eating Sustainable)

cluster

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Assure profitability

Whatever the goals, values or beliefs of a company, to make it work and can continue

to exist in time, it is necessary that the company is profitable and creative money. This is

also the case in a cluster.

1

Own a crop insurance

Agriculture is a tough job physically, not respecting any economic law except that of

nature. Indeed it is very difficult to successfully predict the production (quality and

quantity) before the end of the harvest. Insurance in a bad year is one of the best ways

to survive against natural hazards

2

At least 50% local partnerships

To create the local enthusiasm for the brand and the cluster must set up a local network

of partners. Economically it will be a success thanks to lower transport costs and with a

much more direct distribution. The quality will also be waiting for you thanks to local

Implement a sustainable development strategy involves not only meet the expectations of its

stakeholders in terms of economic performance, environmental, social and governance, but also

knowing how to anticipate risks and opportunities that arise in the medium and long term. We

demonstrate our commitment to demonstrate social responsibility by adopting an innovative ap-

proach that enables them to position themselves in relation to the challenges of their future busi-

ness.

This approach involves the research and development division. If we want to be a leader in the new

agriculture, it is necessary that our cluster every companies invest in R & D.

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Use of new organic seeds in a part of your plot

We know that innovation alone is difficult, it requires a lot of investment, research, crea-

tivity... But together through joint projects it is of course obvious that everything be-

comes more important, the creation is through diversity.

1

Testing of innovative technics

Whatever the technique used, it must know how to innovate in agriculture, as in all are-

as of production. This is the only way to be at the forefront of its market and provide

consumers with quality products at an affordable price. Make innovation our key suc-

cess factor.

2

Take part in collaborative projects

approach of your business. That way, working with an external company guarantee

PPR present in the "Sustainability at PPR" initiative of its subsidiary Puma released

in 2011, the first Environmental Profit and Loss Account. It is an economic evalua-

tion of the environmental impact of greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption,

exploitation of land, air pollution and waste of the main activities and Puma its sup-

ply chain. The identification of environmental impacts Puma allows to define action

plans for the entire value chain. PPR is committed by 2015 to establish an Environ-

mental Profit and Loss Account at all its luxury brands and Sport & Lifestyle.

A company that chooses to engage in a sustainable way is moving in the right direction,

but if it can infuse this approach to its suppliers, customers and other stakeholders, the im-

pact of their choices is likely to have a broader still. Think systematically about their sphere

of influence and communicate quantitative knewr the performance of its suppliers, is to

engage with its stakeholders in a virtuous circle.

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Purchasing mutualization

The sharing of work tools must become a central usual cluster. Do not invest unneces-

sarily if one of our partners in response to the need we can lend tool in exchange for

another, or a few hours. The land can also be construed or shared.

1

Selling mutualization

After sharing tools and land, we must also consider the pooling of sales. To put this in

place a common point of sale, or a common distribution in order to reduce the cost of

distribution and sales. In addition, this will begin to be a first step towards a common

brand of product.

2

3 Common brand program “the Well Eating Sustainable”

Finally, the common brand! This step is the logical continuation of the first two and add one

thing clear bie, a common communication around a single brand name. All products in the clus-

ter must be in the name with a common distribution, packaging and sale. Together create the

trademark WEST (Well Eating Sustainable).

Companies usually put forward best practices in place in some countries such as the social

benefits granted to employees or security policies implemented on site. Harmonize these

practices and extend them to all locations of a cluster and act not only on social issues but

also environmental and economic approach reflects a comprehensive and lasting progress.

That is why we ask our employees to develop new guidelines employees.

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Trade union in the company

China still refuses any right to organize workers. However, the right to trade unionism

exists through some state organizations such as the All-China Federation of Trade Un-

ions (ACFTU), the official trade union, is the scale of China: a giant, with 134 million

members.

1

Take account of workers’ feedback

It's really simple to set up with the first step of this good practice. Indeed, the union will

bridge the gap between employers and employees, allowing feedback from manage-

ment on working conditions in the cluster.

2

Discrimination management through quota of workers

With this return we can know the exact composition of the present employees in the

company. In view of the surrounding environment, it may be up hiring plan towards the

most disadvantaged. The goal is to share knowledge and a better distribution of wealth.

Clusters are mostly engaged in initiatives of solidarity, humanitarian and environmental issues.

These commitments are often presented in the course of their sustainability report. A table sum-

marizing the programs supported, the amounts allocated by the program and the results enables

stakeholders to understand more easily the set of commitments. This is why it is necessary to im-

prove the lives of people around the company, we are not talking about trading partners, but citi-

zens and the community involved in the market.

In today's world must be able to share the profits, as they are technological, financial and environ-

mental.

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Training for 10% of the employees per year in a farming school

Training is central to any economic development of a company. We need to move peo-

ple to greater responsibilities in order that they provide competitive advantage every

organization needs. 10% of employees per year is expensive but yields so much more.

1

Share 50% of your resources

Here the division is not between companies but the cluster with respect to the sur-

rounding communities. In this rural area people need tools, resources and property. A

company can share it with their employees and their families, the establishment of a de-

posit payday for example, can be a great way.

2

Participation in a public competition for social innovation

Social responsible investments can be made up to the community related to you. To

find the talents of the future set up a contest of agricultural innovation for example.

This closer the company with its employees and give an image of proximity.

Within the company, employees are more likely to want more citizen engagement on the part of

their employer. Skills sponsorship allows Cluster to detach their employees during their working

hours, to serve the causes of general interest. This approach responds to the desire of employees

to reconcile personal aspirations and professional life can also bring key skills often supported pro-

jects. To facilitate the involvement of its employees on social issues, West Cluster allows them to

participate in activities of general interest or support associative structures. Thus, any volunteer day

taken by the employee on his personal time is auctioned one day offered by the company, and

within two days. This device will take new employees who will be voluntarily and collectively.

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Partnership with local authorities

Working with local authorities allows the company to improve its image in the eyes of

civil society. This is why we must invest in projects citizen to show customers that the

cluster believes in man and its development.

1

Donation of tools to the community

In agricultural enterprises quite often as tools reach the end of life. In this case we offer

gifts to the community, for these tools to be repaired and re-used for daily needs.

2

Shared gardens for the community

Finally put in place within the company farmland, community gardens for the workers.

In order that those they can properly raise their food and achieve food independence.

ly businesses. In 2011, support Agrisud continued on several projects in Brazil, Sen-

egal and Morocco, where Club Med did get projects of its employees' skills in or-

ganization, training, logistics, etc..

STATEMEMENT

Today's agriculture uses 70% of all freshwater withdrawals globally, and up to 95% in several de-

veloping countries, to meet the demand for food. Water is an important resource in China, and ag-

riculture is the primary consumer. If the South China concentrates 80% of water and 55% of the

country's population, northern China has less than 15% of the available water while hosting 45% of

the Chinese population. Statistics show in particular that some northern provinces have less than

500 m3 of water per capita per year. The water management is a problem to be managed by local

people. The water pollution is unfortunately another parameter to consider. One explanation lies in

the extensive use of pesticides and uncontrolled agricultural farming Chinese faces the challenge

to feed 1.31 billion people, all in a context of water scarcity.

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Quantify water consumption

You have a system to measure your water consumption that allows you to track the

evolution of water expenses. You follow your consumption each year to anticipate and

improve your spending.

1

Shared program for water supply

You are organized with other producers for joint management of water supplies. Pool-

ing allows a more comprehensive resource management for optimization of the pro-

duction in the territory.

2

Control of water quality with a local institution

You validate the quality of the water by local institutions. You participate in the updated

data of institutions working with them.

Heavy metals, non-degradable plastics, sewage ... The Chinese soil sees all colors. Result: 12 million

tons of grains are infected each year. Some agricultural practices disrespectful of the environment

may be responsible for soil degradation and loss of biodiversity. Frequent tillage including deep

plowing, intensive use of fertilizers and pesticides reduce the stock of organic matter (main energy

source for ground dwellers) and disrupt the structure, ventilation, compactness, texture, pH or the

composition of the soil, thereby altering its operation. Other agricultural practices, however, can

maintain or restore soil biodiversity. This type of agriculture advocates the use of the natural prop-

erties of the soil to improve the performance and features work the land without damaging it.

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Systematic crop rotation

You use a formalized system of crop rotation which is the practice of growing a series of

dissimilar/different types of crops in the same area in sequential seasons.

1

Mixed farming

You grow different crops on the same field or several varieties of the same crop with

different life cycles, which uses space more efficiently and spreads risks more uniformly.

2

Use of technics, such as the Mulshing, to avoid the use of chemical fertilizers

You use different techniques to preserve soil quality without altering its composition.

According to Michael Punke, U.S. ambassador to the World Trade Organization, China remains

among the least transparent and predictable of the world’s major markets for agricultural products.

None the less transparency is the core of the mechanism of responsible governance. It enables ex-

ternal stakeholders to analyze an organization and to assess the quality of its products. It is essen-

tial to be coherent between what is publicly shown and what is really done. Indeed, governance

and transparency are more than closely linked. In one part, a bad governance system would lead to

an opaque communication while on the other part a communication that lack transparency would

lead to a bad governance system. Moreover, in the idea of a collaborative work, transparency is the

only way to succeed as it is a tool to manage its relationships with its stakeholders.

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Use of organic wastes as input

You value your organic waste in production

1

Self-sufficient for the production of energy

You produce the amount of energy you need, you are self-sufficient.

2

Use of organic wastes to produce energy

In addition to being self-sufficient in energy production you incorporate organic waste

to produce “Green” energies.

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Internal Audit

An internal audit is clearly a mandatory step towards a transparent governance. You

need to be able to assess what is your company and how it is done. It is the only way to

keep control on your activity and to have a clear view of your impacts.

1

External Audit

An internal audit can not be enough to fulfill the requirements to a true transparency

approach of your business. That way, working with an external company is the guaran-

tee of a real conformity between facts and reality.

2

say an analysis of the life cycle, is the only way to truly assess the impact of your activity

and processes.

STATEMEMENT

!

To take account of your human resources is one of the step towards a responsible company. It is

essential to mobilize all actors around a clear and shared vision developed in operational

action plans. Being close to your employees ‘ expectations would only lead to a successful busi-

ness and a strong feeling of affiliation. The resources and facilities put in place should answer to

such a goal. The sharing of information between employees and partners need to be smooth and

efficient as information, if well managed, offer an important competitive advantage. Moreover, any

company should be able to know its employees well enough, so they can offer them the right job

at the right time.

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Professional Intranet Network

A professional intranet network, is the first for a company to strengthen its human re-

sources management. It enables it to share information with its various employees and

partners.

1

Annual appraisal interview

In order to really know your employees, an annual appraisal interview is a mandatory

step. It enables you to assess your employees’ skills and the evolution of their work.

2

3 Cartography of skills

Last step to a good human resources management towards a collaborative approach, is

a cartography of skills. The previous interview gave enough information on employees

to assess their competencies. Putting it on “paper” enables you find the right person for

the right job and in a collaborative perspective to share skills with other companies.

der to share information and news on various subjects related to their activities

Page 24: Best Practices Sci'Nov

STATEMEMENT

In order to establish a common image and brand, participating in a collaborative platform is a

mandatory step. It enables companies in the cluster to share information and to develop a network

of knowledge and skills. Moreover in order, to take part in the local development the various clus-

ter’s actors need to collaborate with external companies whose thematic is closed from the core

activities of the cluster. That way projects, in R&D for instance, can be lead jointly by different ac-

tors even if they are not member of the cluster. The cluster is, then, able to become a display of

good practices and encourage an eco-responsible approach.

STEPS to fulfill the GOOD PRACTICE

Shared dashboard for projects development

Having a dashboard for your projects enables your company to have a precise view on

its evolution and on the needs in resources to fulfill those projects.

1

Exchange of skills within the cluster

Being an active member of a cluster gives you the opportunity to share your resources

and knowledge. The exchange of skills between companies of the cluster is the best way

to collaborate and to strengthen your activity.

2

Communal place for workers and the community

for workers and the community, so they can start a project of their own or share their

experiences.
