INTER SALWAN BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL

COMPETITION (U-19)

Our Students participated in the Inter Salwan Boys and Girls Basketball Competition (U-19) on December 12-14, 2018 at SPS Rajendra Nagar and bagged the 3rd Position. Shruti Gupta of Class XII won the Best Defender Award.

FOUNDATION DAY CELEBRATIONS

‘LANGUAGE FEST’

A Language Fest was organized on 5 December 2018 to mark the occasion of the Founder’s Day. The Fest showcased the globally popular languages English, German, French, Japanese, Hindi and Sanskrit by the students. The program commenced with a momentous opening by offering a tribute to the founder of the school Late Pt. Girdhari Lal Salwanji. The Principal Ms. Rashmi Malik addressed the gathering by extending a warm welcome to the Guests Mr Kosuke Noguchi, Director of ‘The Japan Foundation’ and Ms Jagriti Buddhiraja, Project Coordinator of Max Mueller Bhavan. The students enchanted the audience by enacting, reciting poems and singing songs, in Japanese, German, French, English and Sanskrit. Children of primary classes displayed their skills in asanas, making everyone aware of the growing importance of yoga in our daily life. Stalls were set up by the students unfurling the vibrant aspects of all the languages offered in school and showcasing the nuances of the global languages.

The guests Mr Kosuke Noguchi and Ms Jagriti Buddhiraja appreciated the earnest efforts of the students and the teachers. The school Director Maj S K Kohli (Retd.) proposed the vote of thanks. The artists from the Delhi International Arts Festival made this special day even more memorable by performing the dance ‘Kali’. Ms. Fiona Gardner, an Australian dancer and choreographer explored ‘Kali’, an unearthly character of Hindu mythology portraying women empowerment. The dance represented the challenges faced by the women in the 21st century

BROWN COLOUR DAY CELEBRATIONS

Brown is the colour of earth, wood and stones. Shades of brown convey concepts of earth-friendly and all natural; this was the thinking that culminated into ‘Brown Colour Day’. On December 7, 2018, our youngsters of Pre Primary celebrated ‘Brown Colour Day’. Their classrooms were decorated with brown colour activities. Children enjoyed the colour visuals and had fun filled day out in the sun, moulding clay and making fun shapes. They went home happily, holding their colourful takeaways.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS

“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful” -Norman Vincent Peale.

Children of Classes Pre Nursery to Class II showcased various national and international festivals through their class assemblies. Students highlighted the origin and importance of each of these festivals with talks, poems and enactment. The aim was to instill a deeper understanding of multiple cultures and appreciating unity in diversity.

A special assembly was held at the school ground on 24th December 2108. The school echoed with Christmas carols sung by the students ushering in festive season. All were filled with joy and excitement as Santa came dancing to the tune of jingle bells. The assembly ended with Principal, Ms. Rashmi Malik congratulating the students for putting up such a heart-warming show. Her message to the students was ‘Let us embrace the spirit of Christmas by bringing joy and happiness into someone’s life’. The Celebrations concluded with the National Anthem.

WORKSHOPS WORKSHOP ON DENTAL HEALTH

A workshop on Dental Health was conducted by Dr (Maj.) Pankaj Jain an Ex-Army man, on 13th December 2018 at the school auditorium for classes VI-VII. The doctor had an interactive session with the students in which he discussed about various problems and diseases related to teeth and their causes. He showed a video to the students highlighting: -Various types of teeth -Different layers of a tooth -Causes and cures of different diseases related to tooth decay. At the end of the session the doctor also discussed about the various myths related to the dental treatment: viz: cleaning tooth leads to mobility of the tooth, extraction of tooth affects the eyes etc. He further acquainted the students that if they take good care of their teeth, drink lot of water, visit a dentist twice a year and brush teeth regularly, they will never face any tooth decay problem.

WORKSHOP ON DENTAL HYGIENE

A workshop on dental hygiene was organised for the of students of class III on December 14, 2018. Dr. Jain was invited to apprise the students about the importance of having healthy teeth and gums. He explained about the different parts of a tooth and showed power point presentation on how the tooth gets affected if we ignore the cleanliness and hygiene of the teeth. The students asked relevent questions which showed their inquisitiveness to know more. It was an interactive session.

WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS ‘HEY MATH’

A workshop was conducted on December 7, 2018 for Math faculty by Hey Math, a web based platform that has digitized its learnings into curriculum solutions helping every student achieve his or her best potential in Math. The approach of the programme is to strengthen conceptual understanding by emphasizing on both the ‘why’ and ‘how’ and using real life context and interactive activities to drive the learning deeper. COMPETITIONS INTER HOUSE ENGLISH COMPETITION

It has been rightly said by Dr. Mardy Grothe that, “Words have incredible power. They can make people’s heart soar or they can make people’s heart sore.”

An Inter-House English Competition was organised for the students of class III on December 15, 18. It was an attempt to promote English speaking skills, in terms of pronunciation, delivery, voice modulation, and to develop English in its spoken form. After rounds of elimination the finalists were selected who spoke on topics like: I Love My School; My Favourite Book; My Favourite Author etc. The competition enabled our boys and girls to speak with more clarity and finesse and it surely was an enjoyable experience for all those who participated and were present there. The confidence, expression and talent of the young ones made the event truly memorable.

INTER HOUSE DEBATE COMPETITION

To appreciate the art of speaking and to give the students an opportunity to speak their heart out, an Inter House Debate competition was organised for the students of classes IV and V on 15th December 2019.

The topics for the debate were

• Are school uniforms needed? • Reading – an emerging trend or a dying interest? • Are we becoming too dependent on technology? • What is more important – the appearance or the character of a person?

The students spoke in favour or against the chosen topic. They defended their ideology and spoke their heart.

The Principal, Ms. Rashmi Malik congratulated the students for confidently expressing their views. She also inspired the audience to regularly participate in such events to hone their skills.

LEARNING BEYOND CAMPUS DAY CAMP (PRE NURSERY-II)

A Day Camp was organized inside the school premises for the students of Pre Nur to KG and classes I and II, by The Great Rocksport, on 26th and 27th December 2018 respectively. A commando net covered half the field, a life-size trampoline stood in one corner while equipment for activities such as the Burma Bridge and river-crossing were spread out in another. The field looked inviting and the children couldn’t wait to begin the day! Throughout the day children were all excited and were full of enthusiasm and energy. The Echo of children laughing and enjoying every moment spent in the camp was heard out loud. The taste buds of the little ones were treated well with yummy and delicious meals offered to them. The day ended but the smiles remained, after all, the day had been a very exciting one for everyone. The children learnt many life skills, and had a great chance to run, jump, fall and to get up immediately, in short to explore themselves.

DAY CAMP (CLASSES III-VII)

A day camp offers a welcoming, lively, safe, positive, and diverse environment where children gain confidence and build their self-esteem.

The students of classes III-V & VI- VIII went for an Adventure Camp at Tikkling, Sohna Road organised by The Rocksport, New Delhi on December 26 & December 28, 2018.

The camp exposed campers to a variety of challenging and exciting activities and many fun filled games. The students participated with a lot of enthusiasm and were engaged in all the activities. It was a fun-filled day for the students as well as the teachers as it further strengthened the bond between them. Team work and co-operation is built through such day camps. Students learn to adjust and share their turns during the recreational activities.

DAY CAMP (Class IX)

The students of class IX visited Adventure Island at Rohini, New Delhi on 22 December 2018. The fun-filled day commenced with a sumptuous breakfast at the theme park. Students had fun watching a spectacular hoopla and acrobatic show and thereafter enjoying the different rides. For lunch they gathered at the Toon Stadium and proceeded further to take on the other rides. It was a day full of fun, frolic and ecstasy for the students enjoying the liberty of spending some memorable time with their classmates. The trip helped in building the camaraderie and also provided an element of fun in their school life.

And step on it very soon

I would love to see mars As much as stars

Thing I will definitely do is spacewalk And using a radioset I will talk

I will never go near sun

It is certainly no fun Even if I got a change of dress

I will not dare do that or else it will be a complete mess

Space is full of amazing sights It has a lot of stars, which we see every night

I wish to grow up soon And become an astronaut on a bright sunny glorious June

I wish to spend day and night in the playground

With my friends all around,

It’s magical even in rain and shine

Not wanting to go back, we all whine,

I fall in muddy puddle as it coats my hair

I put my hands up like a wolf, trying to give my brother a scare,

Imagine riding the mighty swings, or going down my favourite slide

With my hands out like wings.

What if playground was a big old jungle,

With lions and monkeys causing a rumble.

I would love the playground either way,

Because it’s the only place that makes me want to stay

The playground is truly my happy place

It’s an experience no one can replace.
