Friendship is a form of interpersonal relationship generally considered to be closer than association, although there is a range of degrees ofintimacy in both friendships and associations. Friendship and association are often thought of as spanning across the same continuum and are sometimes viewed as weaknesses.

FRIENDSHIP, AS UNDERSTOOD HERE, IS A DISTINCTIVELY PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP THAT IS GROUNDED IN A CONCERN ON THE PART OF EACH FRIEND FOR THE WELFARE OF THE OTHER, FOR THE OTHER'S SAKE, AND THAT INVOLVES SOME DEGREE OF INTIMACY. AS SUCH, FRIENDSHIP IS UNDOUBTEDLY CENTRAL TO OUR LIVES, IN PART BECAUSE THE SPECIAL CONCERN WE HAVE FOR OUR FRIENDS MUST HAVE A PLACE WITHIN A BROADER SET OF CONCERNS, INCLUDING MORAL CONCERNS, AND IN PART BECAUSE OUR FRIENDS CAN HELP SHAPE WHO WE ARE AS PERSONS

, "EACH FRIEND REPRESENTS A WORLD IN US, A WORLD POSSIBLY NOT BORN UNTIL THEY ARRIVE, AND IT IS ONLY BY THIS MEETING THAT A NEW

WORLD IS BORN." THOUGH SOME NATURAL LONERS ARE HAPPY WITHOUT THEM, MOST OF US DEPEND GREATLY ON THE COMPANY OF TRUE FRIENDS. AS WITH ANY RELATIONSHIP, FRIENDSHIPS BRING SUPPORT AND JOY AND OCCASIONALLY STRIFE. HERE'S HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS, UNDERSTAND FRIENDSHIP BETTER, AND BE A GREAT CONFIDANTE TO OTHERS.

Value that is found in friendships is often the result of a friend demonstrating the following on a consistent basis:

The tendency to desire what is best for the other

Sympathy and empathy Honesty, perhaps in situations where it

may be difficult for others to speak the truth, especially in terms of pointing out the perceived faults of one's counterpart

Mutual understanding and compassion; ability to go to each other for emotional support

Enjoyment of each other's company Trust in one another Positive reciprocity — a relationship is

based on equal give-and-take between the two parties.

The ability to be oneself, express one's feelings and make mistakes without fear of judgement.

FRIENDSHIP ISN'T ABOUT WHOM YOU HAVE KNOWN THE LONGEST... IT'S ABOUT WHO CAME, AND NEVER LEFT YOUR SIDE...

A FRIEND IS SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE SONG IN YOUR HEART AND CAN SING IT BACK TO YOU WHEN YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN THE WORDS.

A FRIEND IS SOMEONE WHO CAN SEE THE TRUTH AND PAIN IN YOU EVEN WHEN YOU ARE FOOLING EVERYONE ELSE.

It's the times we're so crazy,that people think we're high.It's the times we laugh so hard,we can't help but cry.It's all the inside jokesand "remember whens".those are all the reasonsthat we're best friends!

THE ADVICE OF FRIENDS MUST BE RECEIVED WITH A JUDICIOUS RESERVE; WE MUST NOT GIVE OURSELVES UP TO IT AND FOLLOW IT BLINDLY, WHETHER RIGHT OR WRONG.
