Beta Tau Chapter 67 of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Area VI Alpha State, Texas The October meeting at Casa Navarro was very enlightening. I had never visited Casa Navarro, home of José Antonio Navarro. Zeta Beta’s Clementia “Clemmie” Rodriquez’s presentation was very informative. Did you know? Along with Stephen F. Austin, José Navarro is considered one of the founding fathers of Texas. He is one of three Mexican signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. He was the sole Hispanic representative at an 1845 convention that led Texas to statehood. Alamo hero James Bowie was his nephew. These are just a few bits of info about Mr. Navarro. If you were unable to attend the October meeting, add Casa Navarro to your list of historical places to see in San Antonio. For more information and pictures from the October meeting see pages 4 and 7 in this month’s Dialogue. Quoting from the DoSeum’s website, “For the safety of all our visitors, all children must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older, and all adults must be accompanied by a child 10 years or younger.” Arline and Loretta have arranged a free tour of the Doseum for our Beta Tau membership at 5:00 o’clock. Regular admission fee is $11 with educators receiving a $1 discount. In other news, our new chapter bylaws, finally, receive a 2/3s vote for approval. Beta Tau Chapter 67 of the Del ta Kappa Gam ma Societ y In ternat ional Area V I

Alpha Sta te , Texas

The October meeting at Casa Navarro was very enlightening. I had never visited Casa

Navarro, home of José Antonio Navarro. Zeta Beta’s Clementia “Clemmie” Rodriquez’s

presentation was very informative. Did you know?

Along with Stephen F. Austin, José Navarro is considered one of the founding fathers of Texas.

He is one of three Mexican signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. He was the sole Hispanic representative at an 1845 convention that led Texas to

statehood. Alamo hero James Bowie was his nephew.

These are just a few bits of info about Mr. Navarro. If you were unable to attend the

October meeting, add Casa Navarro to your list of historical places to see in San Antonio.

For more information and pictures from the October meeting see pages 4 and 7 in this

month’s Dialogue.

The November 12th meeting will take place at the DoSeum, San Antonio’s Museum for

Kids, located on Broadway. Quoting from the DoSeum’s website, “For the safety of all

our visitors, all children must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older, and all

adults must be accompanied by a child 10 years or younger.” Arline and Loretta have

arranged a free tour of the Doseum for our Beta Tau membership at 5:00 o’clock. Regular admission fee is $11 with educators receiving a $1 discount.

In other news, our new chapter bylaws, finally, receive a 2/3s vote for approval. A copy

of Beta Tau’s revised bylaws was sent to Mandy Story, Texas State Organization bylaws

committee chair, for approval. Keep your fingers crossed!!

Remember this issue is a November-December issue and our Silver Scholarship Tea will

be on Sunday, December 8th at 2:00 p.m. in the clubhouse at the Independence Village in

Stone Oak. The purpose of the Silver Scholarship Tea is to raise funds for Beta Tau’s local scholarships. These scholarship monies support scholarships for our current

members and for future educators seeking their degrees.

If you are interested in applying for a professional development scholarship for yourself or

know a deserving young lady worthy of our chapter’s support, fill out the application on

page 6 and submit to Brenda Krueger, scholarship chair.

Have a blessed and thankful holiday season.

Just returned from a fabulous trip to the Galápagos Islands.

Tech Tip Time

Arline Patterson demonstrated several helpful apps

at the October meeting.

If cursive writing is not taught in school, how will students read handwritten historical documents?
