WORLD SERIES CROSS-CONFERENCE CHALLENGE

Cubs or Indians?

Root for your team and support Hurricane Relief

The World Series line-up is set - so how about a friendly cross-conference challenge to root for your favorite team and help raise money for Haiti Hurricane Relief!

Fans have waited a long time to see one of these teams win The Fall Classic ... 1908 for the Cubs, 1948 for the Indi-dans! Who will it be in 2016: world-champion Chicago Cubs or world-champion Cleveland Indians?

Bishop Sally Dyck of the Northern Illinois Conference and Bishop Tracy S. Malone of the East Ohio Conference want to challenge you to show your support for either team and your conference by donating to Haiti and Hurricane Mat-thew relief through UMCOR. (Ironically Bishop Dyck hails from East Ohio and Bishop Malone from Chicago, but be sure that they're cheering for their annual conference teams.)

By giving to support of your favorite team, your dollars will make a difference to those impacted by this devastating storm which has claimed hundreds of lives and displaced many more peo-ple. Whether the Cubs or Indians win, we all "win" by giving a little more toward relief to Haiti.

"Bishop Malone and I are excited to help generate some additional funds to go toward Hurri-cane Matthew relief by encouraging a little good-spirited competition between our "home" annu-al conferences and their baseball teams. Both teams are "heartbreakers," having missed out on winning the World Series for decades so we want to make sure that both annual conferences

and their baseball fans have something to celebrate at the end! Please join us in giving generously," said Bishop Dyck.

"Bishop Dyck and I are partnering on a creative idea to take advantage of the energy here in East Ohio for our Cleveland Indians and the enthusiasm in Northern Illinois for the Cubs," said Bishop Malone. "It excites me to provide a missional opportunity and challenge that will both support our respective teams and raise funds for the relief and recovery efforts in Haiti. I invite you to join us in seizing the opportunity to make

a difference for Christ by making a financial contribution. Proceeds from this challenge will go to our brothers and sisters in Haiti."

Contributions can be made through UMCOR's international relief fund (Advance #982450) which will tally the amounts for each conference. To donate online: visit www.umcor.org, click on donate and then click on

EASTLAND SCHOOL MENTORING

WE NEED YOU! We have 25 students signed up for

mentoring this year! So we need more mentors! The

program, for grades 1-6, begins on Wednesday, No-

vember 2, and continues through February. We meet

from 3:15 - 4:30 pm on Wednesdays at the Elementary

-Middle School in Shannon.

If you’ve been an mentor before

we hope to see you again this

year. If you’ve never mentored,

why not join us? Previous mentors,

please encourage your friends

to join us! There are children

who really need an adult friend

to be there for them: to talk

to, to help get that homework

done! It’s an excellent

opportunity right here in our

own community to do mission

work!

If you cannot help all 4 months, we’ll take the time you

can help! Don’t worry about bad weather—no school or

early out—no mentoring.

Please sign up at the church or call Jane to let her

know. Hoping many will be moved to help our children!

As we approach the end of the year, you may be thinking about things you want to accomplish in the year ahead. Maybe you are wanting to grow closer to God, deepen your relationships, or find purpose and accomplish more in your work. You might also be look-ing for greater meaning in your retirement, or desire to accomplish those long-desired financial goals.

Whether you are making plans for what you want to do after school, or preparing for transitions of life in the year ahead, I want to help you accomplish those things that will bring joy and fulfillment to you. If you would like to talk about pursuing these most important goals, feel free to give me a call on my cell at 815-499-1943. I look forward to supporting you in your pursuit of your hopes and dreams to experience the abundant life.

Life Together in Christ, Pastor Mike
