Here’s my thought -

You work really hard to attract brands to work with you!

When I read a post about how you loved that product the last thing I want to see are stock photos the company sent you to use. I want to see how you used the

product.

The last thing the brands want to see are crappy photos.

Good writing + good photos = a win win situation

IT MATTERS!

A camera is a tool and that tool is only as good as the person that uses it.

✤ The best way to get better is to read your manual and to practice.

✤ When you read your manual hold your camera and practice what they are telling you. I know it’s boring but it’s the best way.

✤ Practice - memory is cheap, shot the same thing over and over with different settings and by moving around it. You’ll soon learn the angles and the lighting that you like.

Light & Photography Tips

✤ open all the curtains and blinds in the area that you are shooting

✤ set your product on the surface that you want so that there is window light directly to the right or left.

✤ Opposite the window you will stand your foam core board up- it will reflect the light back into the shadows

✤ pay attention to what is inside your frame when photographing products - the less distractions the better.

✤ shoot at the level of your product.

Camera Exposure

✤ ISO - the darker the room the higher the ISO

✤ Shutter Speed- the rule I go by when shooting product photography is the the shutter speed is larger than the focal length of my lens. When I first started I would make sure that is I was shooting with my 50mm lens my shutter speed was 1/100. This would usually prevent camera shake.

✤ Aperture - Your f/stop. The way to remember it is the less you want in focus the smaller the number the more you want in focus the higher the number.

✤ I tend to shoot products with my 50mm lens , at 1/100, around f/4.0 and then set my ISO where it needs to be from there.

Tags And Keywords

✤ When you import your photos take the time to add tags and keywords.

✤ This will drastically speed up your time when looking for an image to add into a blog post as then all you will need to do is search for the words that your post is about an a selection of photos will be selected based on those words.

✤ the keywords that you add also go with the image making that much more searchable on the internet.

Stop the scrolling through 1000’s of images!

Image Copyright

Using someones else's photo and just providing a link back is not OK!

Just because it is online does not mean it’s ok to just use it.

You need direct permission to use it on your blog.

If you buy and image you should receive a end user license.

If you email and ask for permission keep the email. It could save you in legal cost later.
