Bex Rox meets Marco Walker!

In this week’s interview, we meet the professional photographer Marco Walker! With his colorful visions and vibrant imagination, he fits right in with the Bex Rox Team and our mission of portraying cross-cultural beauty in everything we do. Marco photographs for a variety of extraordinary clients from publications such as Vogue and InStyle to fashion companies such as Top Shop and Club Monaco. His pieces for Bex Rox display the individuality of the company and can be seen on the company’s website and multiple social media pages.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Both my father and my grandfather were passionate amateur photographers so I guess it’s in my genes, I picked up a camera at 4 and have hardly put one down since. I also think it helps having travelled a lot through my childhood and adolescence always has made me want to document interesting places I have been to.

When were you first introduced to photography ?

I have always been a big fan of all forms of visual art. My parents would drag me around art galleries when I was little so the interest must have been ingrained in me from an early age. I have a lot to thank them for.

What a who were your first inspirations ? 

Most of my big inspirations are artists that have lived and worked in Los Angeles …. Hockney, Baldesari and Ed Rushca to name few. It must be something to do with the light in California.

Which upcoming projects are you most excited about ?

With the current drought happening in California and general climate change around the world, more and more i am interested in raising awareness toward the environment through my photography. For this reason i have decided to start an on going project documenting the wildfires in California. 

How would you describe your style of work ?

For commercial work I mainly use a digital camera with the flash on. It is a very loose documentary/reportage style which allows me to capture that perfect candid moment.

For my own work I prefer to shoot with film and use natural light. Basically I use the two most opposing methods of shooting, but it seems to work well.

Where is your favourite place to travel ?

I generally like spending time in the mountains Lake Tahoe and Austria …. this is where I feel inspired !
