    BHIS VISION IN

    SPORTS

We want to help you to have children who are confident ofparticipation in any tournament by their own choice

without fear of losing. With lot of confidence, self esteem

and courage to face anything that might come in their way

because they will know that they tried their best but theopponent was better. We can promise that there will be a

time when BHIS will be among the best in sports in this

country because you and your child helped us to get there.

The goals of sports and PE are

    similar but not identical SPORT

Develop skills to improve sport specific performance (specialization)

Sport can be a tool to reach personal goals (to improve fitness, to lose

weight, to socialize, to recover from an injury, ...)

PE Develop fundamental motor skills (needed for sports)

    Contribute to general physical fitness

Develop an active lifestyle: kids enjoy moving until they stop moving

Inform about and encourage a healthy lifestyle

    Develop social skills

Cognitive skills: learn about and use your body through observation,

    information and experimentation

Attitude development (discipline, persistence, dealing with

    winning/losing, ...)

    (Scientifically proven) Results

    Improved attitude and classroom behaviour

    Improved memory

    Improved focus

=> This fits in the idea: School knowledge, school a road to a job, school = preparing students for life (Inclusive the job and the knowledge)

1+1=3Students with a healthy mind in a healthy body perform better duringother classes.

A fictive and simplified example to clarify: students can learn in 120mins what students without a proper PE program learn in 160 mins =>3 math classes of 40 mins + 1 class of PE = 4 math classes of 40 mins. The first group gains all PE benefits as well.

Negative correlation between overweight and academicperformance

High risk of getting stuck in a negative spiral

    Improving fitness & skill level

    Consequent repetition

This is a basic fitness training graph. You improve through recovery. The

next training impulse must come close after recovering.

    Improving fitness & skill level

The optimum time depends on the present fitness level, sort of training,

intensity and duration. After a very hard practice or competition (=

complete exhaustion) recovery should not take more than 3 full days.

In case of learning new motor skills there is no recovery time. Practices are

useful whenever a person can focus on the given task. If theres a lot of

time in between of practices, the learning process gets less efficient, it

can even stagnate or get slightly worse if theres in case of very long breaks

    (multiple weeks)

Athletics continues during school holidays and Ramadan (adapted to the

circumstances) because of these facts and because going down goes faster

than going up. Because of the same reasons it is recommended to stay

active on your own during 2nd Term Holidays as well.

This is why missing PE or sports practices too often will result in a

    significant performance difference.

    Swimming

Grade 2 starters: by the end of 2013 all of grade 2 children must learn swimming. It

is compulsory to attend swimming classes at the artificial beach. In the Maldivesas a standard procedure to learn swimming is 20 to 24 classes. In order to be

able to achieve our goal we have arranged a starter program for the 3 classes.

We are dividing ech class into 3 groups.

Practices: Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. In a week each child must swim at least

    2 times.

Grade 3 starter classes on Monday and Wednesday.

All starter classes are at the artificial beach.

Grade 3-5 intermediate classes are at the swimming track on the same days.

Grade 6-10 swimming is also at the swimming track on Sunday and Tuesday.BHIS team practice is on Thursday and 1 on the weekend.

Please understand that in order to achieve individually and collectively we must

increase training time. During this presentation we are showing all the students`

training schedule so it might look too much. However in an example I am going

to show you that depending on your willingness to get better actually is not

    much.

    BHIS Teams

Question: do you want our teams and players to perform andhopefully win or is it not important?

The majority of the kids will say its important. I think most parents feel

this is important. I myself think its a healthy ambition to become as good

as you can be and winning tournaments as goal will motivate most kids.

Although theres nothing wrong to do sports without competition for those

    who dont like it.

Being in the team is a choice, practicing as BHIS team

member is not a choice. To be able to improve to a competition level, practicing should become a

routine. Missing practices is not an option unless theres a good reason.

Thats why there is a minimum attendance requirement of 80% on sports

practices and at least 2 athletics practices a week should be attended.

Attendance difference before and after RamadanWeve noticed a serious attendance drop after Ramadan and aftertournaments. As Ive explained already, improving fitness and motor skillsis a continuous process. We didnt improve as much as we could at allbecause of the drop in attendance.

Cooperation is the only wayIf coaches, parents, teachers and other school members work together, wewill get nice results. The role of you as parent is very important:

    - To bring your kids in time to practices

    - To motivate them (positive reinforcement)- To help each other out, for example by a carpool system

    - To maintain healthy food and living habits

    - And of course by giving the right example, stay fit yourself! (by runningduring athletics practices for example)

    Parents council

For parents to be able to come with initiatives, to get to know your ideas,

opinions and to receive feedback, I think starting up a parents council

would be a great idea. It will improve not only sports, its for the good of

the whole school and will make communication go a lot smoother

    Personal opinion: tuition?

One of the most common reasons not to come to practices is tution. NowI wonder.. Do you really think you should be paying for tution if you

already pay quite much to give your kid the best education? Do you think

its a good thing for kids to go to school when school ends? My opinion is,

school time should be enough for a regular kid. I also doubt most tutions

are helpful in the long run, I actually think it might even harm them as theydont learn to study independently, they dont have to take initiative and

they might get a burnout by overloading them with studying when they are

    this young.
