Business Intelligence Overview (contd)

The BI is a separate system from the SAP R/3 transaction processingsystem i.e. BI runs on its own server to produce queries.

The data structures in R/3 are designed to record data efficiently andquickly. The data structures in the BI are designed to report dataefficiently and quickly.

BI data is not Real-Time -- it is updated nightly.

BIs primary purposes are to provide the ability to produce queriesquickly and to reduce the processing load on the R/3 system.

In JSPL Scenario , we are having a lot of worthy benefits in various modules. It is also

observed that some reports were simply not feasible in R/3 system , which is then

developed in BI System. Likewise some other benefits are mentioned below:

1) FI Module:

Columnar balance sheet is produced in FI.

Direct uploading of Provisions in Balance Sheet without hitting G/L Accounts

a) Actual Costing with Price transfer: In this particular report, Actual Cost Rollupconcept with transfer price (market price & actual price) is implemented. It is not

feasible in R/3

b) Profitability Analysis: This report also includes the logic implemented in Actual

Costing Workbook to consider our production cost for profitability.
