1. Learning objectives

1. To classify BI-RADS 3, 4 and 5 Lesions at US into five categories according toimaging-pathologic correlation.

2. To describe and illustrate their US and pathologic features.

3. To discuss the diagnostic efficacy and the interpretation pitfalls.

2. Background

BI-RADS lexicon for breast sonography had been applied to standardize the characterization ofsonographic lesions. Many studies have assessed the utility of sonographic features indistinguishing benign from malignant lesions. Several study found that descriptors from thesonographic BI-RADS lexicon can be useful in differentiating benign from malignant solidmasses. However, there has been the discrepancy between the final clinical outcome ofBI-RADS Category 3, 4 and 5 for diagnostic sonography.

In this pictorial assay, we categorized five forms of imaging-pathologic correlation in BIRADS 3,4 and 5 Lesions at US, described and illustrated their US and pathologic features. Thisclassification of imaging-pathologic correlation in BIRADS 3, 4 and 5 Lesions at US will be ofhelp in the efficacious categorization and the accurate assessment of breast lesions at US.

4. Conclusions
