Unit QuestionHow do we make our campus belong to us?
• AOI : Environment
• Unit Question :
• Why does this unit involve the environment?
• How does the school environment affect our learning
Friday, October 28, 2011
The AOI of this project is considered Environment because we are making furnitures that would be comfortable and also looks good for the new building, Da Vinci. Basically these furnitures helps to build an environment for all students and teachers that would support them to be productive in learning activities.
We’ll also make the furniture in eco friendly material so it would not be negatively impacted the environment. the material are from our environment, easy to get and reasonable priced.
With this furniture i want to make a closer school community, stronger bond for students, and a better learning process impact for SWA’s family.

Design Brief• I want to make something that’s ‘eye-
catching’, since the concept of the Da Vinci building is modern art.
• I think sofas really create community awareness between students and teachers. because they still can enjoy and relax themselves while doing their works in school.
• My sofa will be appealing for Young and adults, boys and girls. the sofa is the combination of classic design and modern color. The size will be big and fit for 5/6 persons.

Title Specific and why? Testing
MaterialsI would like to use velour fabric because velour fabric
is much more eco friendly and it ‘s easier for very plush, easy to care for and affordable.
I’m going to have samples of fabric and see which one is the strongest and most durable.
Size My sofa is going to be a medium to large size because i want 5/6 people sitting in there
I will make sure my sofa are capable to be used for 5-6 people in a time
Function The function of this sofa is going to be for seating and lounging around the building area
Test if we can seat comfortably in the sofa or not
Safety I will make sure that the edges aren’t rough and pointy so that it will be safe for younger students.
After the sofa is done, I will make sure to make the edges perfectly coated and the softness level
of the cushion won’t hurt people’s back.
AestheticsMy clients requested for a wacky, unique, and attractive furniture so that it would improve the school’s environment and wouldn’t look boring.
I am going to be brave about the shape and put as many curves in the wood . Big and eye
catching with classic taste and modern color
CostI think the price would not be so expensive , since the material i am going to use is not expansive but still it
still have a good material quality.
I will make sure to have a reasonable budget and will make the furniture professional looking.
EnvironmentFor the environment I’m going to use materials that’s
easy to recycle, for example; velour (cotton +polyester). For coloring its part i’m going to use wood
sprayer ( not too much)
I’m going to do a research first and compare materials.
ManufactureMy sofa need to be in factory process since the size is
big and i want it to be perfectly match both, with the building concept and the school community
I’m going to ask experts for suggestions and supervision so that it would be safe and the
product will be good enough.

PLAN

Gantt

Gantt Chart
Friday, October 28, 2011
Evaluation of the Plan
1. Was my plan detailed, realistic, understandable and whyMy plan was not really detailed because i can't show the detailed curved of the wood (the frame) in google sketch up. Unfortunately I didn't explain what instruments to use for curving the materials. although my final design is clear enough ,so the people will get some ideas of how the product is going to be made.
it is realistic because i have estimate the length and the height. i'm using fine material that are easy to get and the procedures aren't that difficult. it's only need some more patience when curving the wood. I don't know what tool that is suitable and effective for curving process. However, i should be careful to make sure my fingers are safe when i am using those materials for cutting and curving. In the final process, i should make sure that the surface of the sofa have no sharp edge so it would be completely safety to be use.
i think my plan is understandable well enough because i used easy language, managed the procedures and detailed step-by step. however i haven't stated the actual measurements for the final design, what tools i need, what kind of glue to stick the wood block to the cushion.
2. Could it be followed by someone else and whyYes, people can follow my design because i have written all the detailed process, materials and also the final design are included. But, the product will not look exactly the same like what i want to make, because in the final design picture i couldn't draw the detailed curved.

Evaluation of the Plan
3. Are the timings accuratei think the product will finish and the process on time because according to the procedures as in the gantt chart. However i'm not really sure about the time taken for curving and furnishing the wood regarding the size of the sofa is pretty big.
4. Did my plan mention the usage of all materials and resources clearly? My plan clearly mentioned the materials that will be needed for the product which is wood (frame part). velour fabric (for the cushion), some cotton for filling the cushion. i will use some extra strong wood glue to stick the cushion to the wood block. However, i should improve my plan by adding more detailed about the tools and materials needed .
