At a time when other suppliers of stretching lines are either scaling down their organization or with-drawing from the industry, ESOPP is strengthening its position as the reliable partner for your next invest-ment project. ESOPP is putting additional resources to serve its growing base of customers and it is now operating with fully-owned offices and representative partners in all major countries, including China, Japan, Korea, Russia, India and Brazil.

In addition to a cumulated expe-rience in the supply of over 250 stretching lines in the past years, ESOPP team holds a successful track record of many ESOPP lines in operation around the world.

of offering an unbeatable short schedule for project execution, with a contractually-guaranteed first commercial film reaching the winder within 12 months from contract signature, for any standard turnkey stretching line.

The other strong signature of ESOPP is to also guarantee the lowest energy cost per kg of film for its high-output stretching lines for commodity films (BOPP, BOPET).

The year 2016 has started with a positive stretch for ESOPP as the company already holds a large number of effective orders in hands for the supply of stretching lines. These orders are turnkey orders with the full engineering, procure-ment, manufacturing, delivery and commissioning of these stretching lines being performed integrally by ESOPP.

On the technical f ront, these stretching lines feature several major innovations targeted at producing high-end specialty films. These evolutions include a new configuration of the MDO stretching section that significantly broaden the process window; a specific TDO oven design aiming at reducing the energy cost and a renewed chain track design (2 new clips designed) for high-speed operations. Also, several of these stretching lines will incorporate the FLEXSIM simultaneous stretching system developed by ESOPP.

Beside these recent orders, ESOPP is pursuing its commercial strategy

Furthermore, due to the variety of multilayered BOPA films to be produced on this new stretching line, it has been designed to allow several trimmed widths on the winder, ranging from 5.1m to 6.6m. The high flexibility of this line in both the adjustment of MD & TD ratios, as well as the changes in widths on the winder makes it very suitable for the production of the new types of BOPA films being introduced these days on the market (high-barrier BOPA film, high temperature resistant BOPA film, etc.)Beside this innovative FLEXSIM simultaneous stretching unit, this new BOPA line features several other proprietary designs from ESOPP, including our high-precision air pinning unit, our scratch-free water treatment tank with low friction driven rolls and our latest generation of large width winder with direct tension control by high precision special motors.

What about… sequential and simultaneous stretching on the same production line…?The most recent generation of the FLEXSIM stretching unit from ESOPP is capable of running both in sequential mode and in simul-taneous mode. This means that one single stretching line equipped with a MDO unit and a FLEXSIM stretching unit can run alternatively in sequential mode and in simultaneous mode. The change from one stretching mode to the other is performed very easily. Such versatility in the stretching mode (sequential and simultaneous) is very interesting for pilot lines or semi-production lines.

China’s newest BOPA line is being delivered by ESOPP and it will be commissioned by end 2016. This 6.6m BOPA line will feature a speci-fic version of the FLEXSIM simulta-neous stretching unit in which both the MD and the TD ratios are adjus-table within a range to fit the speci-fic stretching requirements of BOPA films. Speaking of which, one very critical issue in this special design is the control of the bowing value of the finished film.Unlike other simultaneous stretching systems available on the market, every clips of the FLEXSIM chain track are driven by the chain, hence assuring a perfectly controlled posi-tioning of each clip along the rail of the stretcher. As a result, there is no idle clip that will create uneven stretching behavior and therefore poor film properties as well as an unacceptable high number of film breaks. Also, the many possibilities to ad-just the MD and TD ratios within the stretching section of the ten-ter allows to perfectly adjust the stretching patterns to reach the optimum film properties.

BOPA FILM PROJECT

ESOPP will deliver several turnkey stretching lines for the production of wet process-based LIBS films (battery separator films). These lines incorporate several specific features to cope with the very challenging requirements of the wet process-based production method of LIBS films: high content of paraffin oil in the raw material preparation and the use of hazardous solvents along the production process.Due to the market requirements and the specific process know-how from its customers, ESOPP will deliver LIBS lines based on the sequential stretching process and LIBS lines based on the simulta-neous stretching process.ESOPP will commission these lines (commercial film on the winder) within 12 months from contract effectiveness date.

TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS

MD RELAX CLIPS FOR BOPET FILMS & BATTERY SEPARATOR FILMS (LIBS)There is a growing demand for high-quality optical films with extremely low MD shrinkage values. Reaching these low MD shrinkage values requires both process adjustments and specific equipment designs. From a machine point of view, the right technical answer to reach such film properties is to allow the film to retract naturally in MD direction during and/or right after the TD stretching process.

ESOPP has several lines that are operating with the so-called “MD relax clips” chain track which allows up to 10% MD relax of the film in the stretching and heat-seat sections of a sequential TDO.

Two types of “MD relax clips” chain track are available from ESOPP: • A full bearing clip with a heavy duty 2-jaws table (pitch of 120

mm) dedicated to high stretching forces (such as BOPET film up to 350 micron).

• A full bearing clip with a single-jaw table (pitch of 45mm after MD relax) for thin gauge films (down to 4 micron) or sensitive

It is a clear fact that the demand for simultaneous stretching technology is growing significantly. Nearly half of ESOPP inquiries are based on si-multaneous stretching technology. ESOPP team was a pioneer of the mechanically-based Simultaneous stretching technology with the first stretching line installed nearly 15 years ago. The FLEXSIM stretching unit is the 3rd generation of simul-taneous stretching unit developed by ESOPP engineers.ESOPP is an absolute believer in the full mechanical simultaneous stretching system, a reliable and ea-sily maintainable system with each

clip being precisely controlled by a powerful driving chain. The reasons are the following:• It is the only existing solution that

enables to drive every clips along the chain track: there is no idle clip, and therefore no uneven stretching behavior.

• From equipment procurement and maintenance cost point of view, it is the only cost-effective solution, thus opening the door to many types of films including commodi-ties films.

• Energy cost to drive the clips are identical to that of sequential line, hence again a cost effective solution.

films (such as LIBS films). For both “MD relax clip” designs, the MD relax ratio during or after TD stretching can be adjusted during the production from 0% (no MD relax) up to 10%. This adjustment can be either manually performed by operators or actuated by precision motors integrated inside the stretching and heat-set sections of the tenter.

MDO STRETCHING UNIT FOR SPECIALTY FILMS ESOPP has invested a significant amount of its engineering capabilities in readying its newest generation of MDO stretching configuration for specialty film lines. At the core of this development is the capability of this new MD stretching configuration to adjust freely the following production parameters:• All stretching rolls are individually driven, with direct drives mounted

onto the rolls (no coupling shaft). Hence, a wide range of multi-gap stretching can be created.

• Each stretching rolls can be moved in vertical and horizontal axis by precision motors, so that both the wrapping angle of the film to the roll and the free distance between each roll can be adjusted for process requirements.

• All nip rolls are driven independently and their position can be adjusted around the stretching rolls so that the nipping effect of every nip roll remains optimum regardless of its adjustable position towards the stretching rolls.

The extreme versatility of this MDO stretching configuration enable a very wide process window, with many types of of specialty films being produced on the same line under optimum process conditions.
