How can I help my student?Even if you don’t know Spanish!

Provide a clear time and place for homework Have the student teach you what they are

learning (teaching is the best form of learning!) – even if you can’t understand it all

Encourage interacting with the language:• Learn some phrases you can use with them• Label your house with Spanish!• Play Spanish games on the internet (Duolingo)• Change your computers browser to Spanish• Play video games in Spanish• Watch a movie/TV program you know in

Spanish• Listen to a sports game in Spanish.

Grading – Preparation and Production

Preparation and Production is based on:

bringing materials to class (notebook, homework)

completing out of class work (logs, homework) Participating in class (interacting in Spanish)

Page 14: ¡Bienvenidos a la clase de espa ñ ol! Sra. Bragg

Grading - FormativeFormative grades show how students are forming their knowledge. This is

an ongoing process, therefore, students are encouraged to constantly improve their knowledge.

Re-do option of formative work

To show improvement of knowledge, students must show:

extra effort in studying by completing a formal corrections process

re-do work within four days of receiving a graded work

Page 15: ¡Bienvenidos a la clase de espa ñ ol! Sra. Bragg

Grading – Summative based on past class work (quizzes, homework,

projects) give the student and opportunity to show their

ability to combine all their current knowledge writing, reading, listening, and speaking of Spanish.

Integrated Performance Assessments (IPA) – authentic interaction in an informal setting at the end of each unit.

Projects – formal presentation of a specific subject.
