What is a verb infinitive?
It is the simple, uninflected
form of the verb, expressing
existence or action without
reference to person, number,
or tense
WHAT!!!!A verb infinitive is the “base” form of the verb. In English, this is the “to” form – to read, to walk, etc.
![Page 5: Bienvenue encore à la salle d’entraînement](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022081520/568166e7550346895ddb25a2/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)

What is conjugating
anyway?
Conjugating is “to inflect (a verb) systematically, giving its different
forms according to voice, mood, tense, number, and person”.
Again…
WHAT!!!!
Put it in different forms according to a system.

SUBJECT PRONOUNS
Before we can conjugate a verb, we have to know the subject pronouns – all of them. Let’s review!
I = je we = nousyou = tu you (pl) = voushe = il they (m) = ilsshe = elle they (f) = ellesDon’t forget that weird little pronoun “on” that is the
general sense word.

• There are two steps to conjugating a regular verb in French. We are going to work with “regular” –er verbs. They are “regular” because they all follow the same pattern and they are “–er verbs” because the infinitives all end in –er. Get it? Regular -er verbs.
Master Yoda, how do
we conjugate a verb? Two steps there are. Listen and
learn you must!
![Page 9: Bienvenue encore à la salle d’entraînement](https://reader036.vdocument.in/reader036/viewer/2022081520/568166e7550346895ddb25a2/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
You find the stem of a regular –er verb by taking the –er off of the infinitive. Whatever is left is the stem.
The first step is to find the
stem!
Example: parler (which means to speak) If we take off the –er, parl- is left. Parl- is the stem.
