Background
• The NHS generates millions of records of data every day
• Traditional technologies are starting to struggle to cope with the volumes of data and the processing demands, not to mention the cost of maintaining a huge server infrastructure
The NHS need a new way of processing large data sets quickly and at low cost
• We acquired a HES extract of 12 years of patient activity across England and permission to load it into Google BigQuery
• We have been combining HES with other sources to ‘pan for gold’contained in the data
