Friday, April 13, Big Meadows’ staff and residents said farewell to Lisa Mussmann. She took a position at Mercy in Clinton, IA. Pictured to the right is Lisa with her cake, with the wind chime Ben Reibel made her and one of many gifts she received from co-workers and residents. We wish her luck in her future but she will be missed.
On April 18, the Young Adult Christian group came to Big Meadows and played April Showers bring May Flowers with the residents. We recognized YAC for their volunteer service here at Big Meadows. Below are pictures of the residents playing the game and the YAC group with their cake—congratulating Kristen and Claire (holding the cake) for graduating from Fulton High School in May and thanking the whole group for spending time with the residents.

~Betty Flammang~ A111
Betty Flammang was born on May 5, 1930. Her father died when Betty was two, so her grandparents raised her. Betty was an only child. Betty married her husband, John Ralph, in 1947 when she was 17. Betty has 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren!
Betty and John Ralph lived in Aurora. They had a fox wire hair terrier named Pam. Betty was a CNA and worked as an in-home care aide. Betty was also a waitress when things were tight, to have “fast cash” for food. John Ralph was a truck driver and A1 mechanic. They traveled a lot during the last five years John was alive, he passed away while they were in California. After [John] Ralph passed away Betty stayed with one of her daughters for three years to help raise her children, then moved to Savanna to help take care of her mom.
Betty became a Christian when she was 16 and her life is centered around church. She was a member of Savanna Bible Church. Betty enjoyed reading and bowling. She bowled on a league for a few years. After two heart attacks, one in ’94 and one in ’98 Betty moved to Mest Manor. Betty moved to Big Meadows in April of 2006.
*Fun Facts* - Favorite color: blue - Favorite food: chili
- Favorite Bible verse (one of them): Psalm 139: 23, 24 - 23Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
- What she has to say about Big Meadows: “I feel very blessed to be here. I thank God for Him bringing me here at the time He did. I get good care. I enjoy that we all have private rooms. I’m very pleased and happy here.”
