This transition will lead to the job loss of 10 academics from the School of Surveying and Planning, students remaining at Kingston would then be taught by new staff teams from the schools they have been transferred into. At this point in time, KUSU will have to do more research into the University's plan. KUSU Believes: Any course closure could have potential effect leading to a lower value of education for students. The current transition of the School could potentially have dramatic effects on Planning and Surveying students' quality of education regardless of faculty or enrolment status change. A potential change could then effect students within faculties that fall under this re- alignment as resources would then have to be included to accommodate a new cohort of students. Also, the potential for lecture's within differing faculties to be under qualified to teach the same material as in Survey and Planning is high. The potential loss of current staff members could result in a poorer depth of experience and knowledge for students to learn from. That the students views on the quality and worth of their course should be one of the key factors in deciding the future of that course. The separation of these courses that are uniquely interwoven would mean students would not graduate with the level of experience that potential employer’s desire. KUSU Resolves: To begin immediate dialogue with the University aimed at ensuring the best possible outcome for students within the School of Surveying and Planning. To begin immediate work to keep in contact and gain feedback from the students within Surveying and Planning. To voice the students' opinions within the School of Surveying and Planning through all appropriating Kingston University Boards and Committee's To provide publicity and other support to campaign actions that Surveying and planning students decide to take.

Motion Title: Closure of the School of Surveying and Planning Motion Proposer(s): Will Franden, Seconded by Nick Beers

KUSU Notes:

• A proposed plan has been delegated to the Dean of FADA to close the School of Surveying and Planning and relocate current which will mean that current Level 4 and 5: -Surveying students will have one of two choices: 1) Their course could be relocated into differing faculties 2) Their enrolment status could be transferred to a differing university. -Meanwhile, the school of planning will close, and students will have to seek this school in differing universities. -This plan is set to commence within a rough 5-6 week timeframe.

• This transition will lead to the job loss of 10 academics from the School of Surveying and Planning, students remaining at Kingston would then be taught by new staff teams from the schools they have been transferred into.

• At this point in time, KUSU will have to do more research into the University's plan.

KUSU Believes:

• Any course closure could have potential effect leading to a lower value of education for students.

• The current transition of the School could potentially have dramatic effects on Planning and Surveying students' quality of education regardless of faculty or enrolment status change.

• A potential change could then effect students within faculties that fall under this re-alignment as resources would then have to be included to accommodate a new cohort of students. Also, the potential for lecture's within differing faculties to be under qualified to teach the same material as in Survey and Planning is high.

• The potential loss of current staff members could result in a poorer depth of experience and knowledge for students to learn from.

• That the students views on the quality and worth of their course should be one of the key factors in deciding the future of that course.

• The separation of these courses that are uniquely interwoven would mean students would not graduate with the level of experience that potential employer’s desire.

KUSU Resolves:

• To begin immediate dialogue with the University aimed at ensuring the best possible outcome for students within the School of Surveying and Planning.

• To begin immediate work to keep in contact and gain feedback from the students within Surveying and Planning.

• To voice the students' opinions within the School of Surveying and Planning through all appropriating Kingston University Boards and Committee's

• To provide publicity and other support to campaign actions that Surveying and planning students decide to take.
