Bigger and Better: More Space, New Scheduling System

PEA is just completing a major expansion, along with other student-centered improvements. Inside and out, the academy has been repainted. The student lounge is newly carpeted and decorated with oversized photos of PEA students and instructors filling the walls. More computers have been added for student use. The dispatch area was relocated and expanded; it now includes a comfortable lounge area for students with sofas and recliner chairs — and the best view in the house, large windows looking directly out on the ramp and taxi area. And a new kitchen area includes vending machines for student snack attacks.

The reception and Admissions Officers offices were relocated for easier access. More space was needed to accommodate PEA’s growth; approximately 3,500 sq. feet of additional space was added to the facility. Even new landscaping adds to the attractive front entrance area.

Another major change has been the installation of a new scheduling system, called ETA. Students can now check their flight schedules from off premises, anytime of the day or night. Scheduling and aircraft utilization has become easier and more efficient. Students and instructors can also debrief a flight directly onto a computer in the dispatch lounge.

It’s Not All Work and No PlayDuring flight training hard work is required, focusing on learning so many new things. You’re studying, you’re flying, and you’re in class. Not a lot of time to relax.

Held at the Riverside Pavilion in Port Orange, a beautiful site right on the water, it was an evening of good food, tasty drinks, lots of laughter – and time to get to know fellow students and instructors better. There was even a huge, table-sized coconut cake, actually a number of cakes, which spelled out “Phoenix East.” It tasted as good as it looked.

Aviator’s Words of Wisdom:

Always remember you fly an airplane with your head, not your hands. Never let an airplane take you somewhere you brain didn’t get to five minutes earlier.

Fast Flight Training? It Can Be Done!Joseph Michael Zaarour is a true fast learner. He started his PPL training on June 29, 2006, and received his license in just 31 days, on July 29. Oh yes, Joseph is 17 years old; he’ll celebrate his 18th birthday later this year on November 17th. Phoenix East congratulates Joseph! His focus and hard work paid off.
