BPB Work in Ukraine

The UK Foreign Office (FCO) uses Bilateral Programme Budget to support the work we’re doing to deliver our policy goals of furthering democracy, supporting reforms in public institutions and strengthening the rule of law in Ukraine.

Projects in 2014-15 Monitoring access to the media for the presidential candidates during the 2014 snap presidential elections campaign Duration: May-June 2014 Funding: £5,000 Purpose: Enhanced understanding of international observers, media experts and the general public of the access of presidential candidates to the local media and the quality of the TV reporting of the span presidential elections campaign in 2014 Implementers: Academy of Ukrainian Press NGO Synergy in Action: regional dialogue to promote reforms through implementation of the AA and the DCFTA and communicate its benefits to local communities Funding: £ 10,000 Duration: July 2014 – March 2015 Purpose: to promote reforms under the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, including a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, and supporting its implementation Implementers: Action Global Communications Ltd, Ukraine Informational support for Ukrainian businessmen on issues of quality conformance of Ukrainian goods to EU market requirements quality Duration: July 2014- March 2015 Funding: £ 10,000 Purpose: to train representatives of at least 250 companies and provide freely available methodological and analytical materials in media on issues of quality conformance of Ukrainian goods to EU market requirements quality Implementers: Dnipropetrovsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry New business space: The benefits of European integration for the local business community of South-Eastern Ukraine Duration: July2014-February 2015 Funding: £9,900 Purpose: raise awareness of the business community and the public of South-Eastern Ukraine (Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions) on the benefits of European integration and Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU for Ukrainian economy and local businesses Implementer: Crimean republican youth public organisation, Mykolaiv, Ukraine

Integration of EU and Ukraine agricultural sectors Duration: July – December 2014 Funding: £9,883.07 Purpose: to provide support to public and private sectors in agriculture of Ukraine to grasp new opportunities arising from the Association Agreement between EU and Ukraine by delivering guidelines on the sector reforms for the governmental institutions and business development for agricultural industry Implementers: Association "Ukrainian Agribusiness Club" (UCAB) and Ukrainian Nature Conservation Society Developing a model of raising additional revenues to the budget for Ukrainian Ministry of Finance Duration: July 2014- March 2015 Funding: £1,500 Purpose: Ukraine adopts a UK model of raising additional re venues to the budget for Ukraine (based on the National Lottery experience Implementer: British Embassy Kyiv together with the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport 8th National Selection Conference of European Youth Parliament-Ukraine Duration: August 2014 Funding: £ 1,500.00 Purpose: to promote European values, especially the democratic process of decision making in order to create a generation of young, enthusiastic and fair Ukrainian leaders Implementers: European Youth Parliament-Ukraine Stronger Together in Ukrainian universities Duration: July 2014-March 2015 Funding: £2,500 Purpose: Ukrainian university students deliver innovative activities in support of Stronger Together campaign Implementer: British Embassy Kyiv with EU’s Information Centres in Universities and Centres of EU Information across Ukraine Stronger Together Social Media Video Campaign Duration: July2014 - 31 December 2014 Funding: £ 3,850 Purpose: deliver concrete EU related messages in a simple, easy to understand, interactive and engaging format to Ukrainian citizens, via social media and the internet Implementing organisation: Seed Forum Ukraine Foundation UK-Ukraine Regulatory Dialogue on Unconventional Gas Duration: July 2014 - 31 March 2015 Funding: £5,900 (co-funded by Shell) Purpose: introducing new procedures to improve the energy sector/unconventional gas development in Ukraine Implementing Organisations: to be tendered

“GrEEn thinking – green future of Donetsk region” Duration: July – December 2014 Funding: £ 9,980 Purpose: to stimulate energy efficient attitude in the local society of Donetsk region through popularization of green thinking preparing greener future for industrial region Implementers: “Letavitsa” NGO, Donetsk

Integration of environmental issues in the development of shale gas in Ukraine Duration: July 2014 – March 2015 Funding: £ 10,000 Purpose: in close communication with authorities, to elaborate legislative changes that would integrate environmental issues in the practical development of shale gas in Ukraine Implementers: Secretariat of the Committee on Environmental Policy, Natural Resources and Elimination of Consequences of Chornobyl Catastrophe, Ukrainian Parliament ,with "Event Management" NGO Strengthening energy security and sustainability through international cooperation and integration Duration: May 2014 Funding: £1,500 Purpose: deepen the dialogue between Ukraine and EU countries on the safety and reliability of the electricity and natural gas supply, diversifying the energy sources, expanding the zone of market competition outside the EU (through the international conference "Energy Infrastructure of Ukraine: Practical Aspects of its Integration with Energy Systems of the Central Europe Countries”) Implementer: “Kyiv Energy Research Institute" NGO
