DAVID LIPSCOMBHIGH SCHOOL
Class of 1970
30 Year Reunion
MEMORY BOOK
October 14, 2000
FOREWORD
It’s hard to believe that thirty years have passed since the members of Lipscomb’s class of 1970 marched down the steps of Alumni Auditorium, diplomas in hand. Sometimes, we think we can almost hear again the slamming of those metal locker doors. And who could not remember the sounds (and smells!) which emitted from Burton Gym? How many times were you greeted at the high school cafeteria by Jason, the giant black poodle? Can you also recall receiving greetings (in the form of traffic tickets) from Jonesy, Lipscomb’s own version of Deputy Barney Fife? And of course, you can still remember who sat beside you in Acuff Chapel all those years, can’t you? (Hint, we were seated in alphabetical order!) And who does not recall those first few years of the “mighty Mustangs” charging onto the football field?
Our world has seen many changes, as have our personal lives, but those memories of “The Way We Were” continue to bring us together.
The planning of this reunion has brought back lots of memories and has been a very enjoyable experience for us. We hope that you enjoy this event and the memories you will take from it as much as we have enjoyed making it happen for you.

Expected Occupation: I always wanted to be an airline stewardess, but I was too short, although good things come in small packages. Or I wanted to be an interior designer or college French teacher like Miss Lowe.
What REALLY Happened: My current occupation is interior designer. It was a long, hard road but I was very determined.
Children: My beautiful children are Jonas, 1971; Seth, 1972; Ann, 1974. Seth is married to Lauren. They are expecting their first child in February 2001. (They are all fortunate to be alive. I could have killed them when they were teenagers, but out of the goodness of my heart, I allowed them to live. I also remind them of this frequently.)
Favorite Vacation: I had so many favorites it is hard to select just one. The most recent favorite vacation was going to Williamsburg, VA and Busch Gardens this past May. The roller coasters at Busch Gardens were great.

Most memorable experience while at DLHS: Being associated with students, other teachers and staff the majority of whom put Christianity first, was a memorable experience in itself. I am grateful for that experience.
For several years after leaving DLHS, I was a bookkeeper, then I had my own business in the field of natural health. Now I am in my hometown of Celina caring for my 92-year-old mother. I taught Mathematics at DLHS from 1963 to 1969.
I thank you for inviting me to celebrate with you. I would enjoy seeing you--being there with you. But I am seldom away from Mama for long at a time.
Have a great time together...I loved you, each one!

“I taught at DLHS from 1943 to 1951 and from 1959 to 1977, a total of 26 years. Subjects I taught were U.S. History, World History, English, civics, geography, economics and sociology. Two of my most memorable experiences were June 6, 1944, the day of Lipscomb High School graduation for my sister and also the day my brother was going into France with the D Day invasion. The second memory is November 22, 1963 when President Kennedy was killed. We were in history class when it was announced over the intercom. The mood was one of shock and disbelief. The principal had me to come to the office and explain to the students the line of succession to the presidency.”
