further to amend the Punjab Animals Slaughter Control Act, 1963.

Preamble.– Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Punjab Animals Slaughter Control Act, 1963 (III of 1963) for purposes hereinafter appearing;

It is enacted as follows:-

1. Short title and commencement.– (1) This Act may be cited as the Punjab Animals Slaughter Control (Amendment) Act, 2012.

(2) It shall come into force at once.

2. Amendment in section 2 of Act III of 1963.– In the Punjab Animals Slaughter Control Act, 1963 (III of 1963), in section 2, for clause (a), the following shall be substituted:-

“(a) “animal” means a bull, bullock, buffalo, buffalo-bull, camel, cow, goat, ostrich, poultry, quail, sheep or any other animal or bird of any age domesticated in captivity;”

STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS

Ostrich is the largest, flightless, hardy, desert bird, which can tolerate a wide range of temperature. Commercial Ostrich farming is amongst the world’s fastest growing meat business serving global market for meat, leather, eggs, feathers and related products. It is an opportune time for Pakistan to capture its share in the international market by rearing Ostrich commercially and launching its products both locally and in the international market. It is proposed to amend section 2(a) of the Punjab Animal Slaughter Control Act 1963 (W.P. Act III of 1963) in order to achieve the said purpose. Hence this Bill.
