Main ImageThe main image is a mid shot of teenage pop star Justin Bieber. This attracts the target audience of young females as they are the audience of his music and him as an artist. He is a well-known artist, this will help the magazine sell as

people will see he is on the front cover and will be attracted to it as he is famous, popular and current within the music industry. He is wearing a white t-shirt which symbolises his youth and innocence, allowing the audience to

relate to him as he is just a teenager. The denim jacket allows him to stand out slightly from the background so he doesn’t fade into it. His stance shows him to be calm and laid back. This makes him appear to be cool and have an

element of swagger which makes him appeal to the target audience.

Colour Scheme

The magazine has a colour scheme consisting mainly of white, red and green which are the colours linked with Christmas. This is because it is the Christmas edition of Billboard magazine. The colour scheme is different to the normal colour scheme, suggesting the magazine contains something extra special as it is different. This could attract the audience as they will be intrigued to discover what is so special about the magazine and will buy it in order to find out. The Christmas colour scheme is used to get people into the festive spirit of Christmas and will show that the magazine is special as it is a special time of the year.

Price

As the magazine is high quality it is fairly expensive. It is £5.50, therefore it is in small font at the bottom of the page. This makes it hard to see,

therefore the audience will see it last. This helps the magazine sell as they will see the interesting stories and the intriguing layout and will think its worth buying, and therefore will be prepared to

spend a lot on the magazine as they have already decided they want to purchase it because of the desirable features they have seen on it.

Layout

The layout of the magazine is diagonal which makes it eye

catching. It is an unusual layout for a magazine making it more desirable as the audience will believe it is something they have never read before and will be intrigued by the interesting layout.

The magazine is cut into sections putting each topic in a different section, this makes it easy for the audience to see what stories will be included in the magazine. This way they can easily see if the

magazine is for them and if the contents of the magazine will interest them.

Sell Lines

The sell lines include stories about Lady Gaga and Rihanna who are

well-known artists in the music industry. This attracts the audience as they will be interested in the artists and want to buy the magazine to read about them. The colour of the sell lines contrasts to

the background colour making it more readable. The sell lines are white on the red background, and the sell lines are red green or black on the white background.

Mast HeadThe masthead of this magazine follows the colour scheme as it is white which stands out and contrasts with the red background. However, the masthead also has yellow in it. This is effective as every Billboard magazine has the yellow circles in it, making the magazine masthead consistent as all of the mastheads are in the same colour, font and design. This will make the magazine recognisable as the masthead will allow the audience to easily identify a Billboard magazine on the shelf in a shop. This may also help Billboard magazine build a reputation for themselves if they have the same masthead on every magazine. It will make their magazines noticeable. The masthead is partly covered by the main image on the magazine. This is effective as it makes the image appear to come out of the page which is likely to attract people. Even though part of the masthead is covered, the magazine is still easily recognisable due to the consistent style of masthead used on most of Billboard’s magazines.
