Sustainability Management - Safety:BIM-based Safety Management Plan

14

Safety management could form a part of BIM-based construction procedures.

BIM solutions can include construction process data such as activities and their logic – also widely called 4D models – additional dimension: time.

Sustainability Management - Safety: BIM-based Safety Planning - Site Layout Planning

Optimise site layout plan by examination of the location of material storage area, machinery location, movement of machinery, access way, impact to site surroundings, etc.

Sustainability Management - Safety: BIM-based Safety Planning - Crane Reach and Risk Zone

16

(i) BIM-based site planning to check crane reach and capability in construction works.

(ii) Examine risks in case of load fall.

(iii) Evaluate what the crane jib could hit.

(iv) The significant of this kind of examination increase if there is limited space around the construction site and clashes become possible.

Sustainability Management - Safety: BIM-based Risk Management – Automatic Safety Analysis

Researchers are testing to use and integrate both BIM and Solibri Model Checker software (SMC) to automate or semi-automate safety analysis. The testing scope includes:

1. Detect different types of openings that could be potential fall hazard so as to automate to develop BIM-based falling prevention planning.

2. Examine existence and properties of site objects or safety required objects.

3. Check free space around site and within site.

4. Check required minimum distance between objects.

5. Detect collision of objects.

Examples of BIM-based material to be used in site communication sessions

Sustainability Management - Safety: BIM-based Safety Communication – Site Communication

Carefully prepared site communication sessions can provide valuable information to all site personnel. The BIM-based communication has promising opportunities to influence site personnel.

The use of visualisations in communication can reinforce safety messages. It helps to understand safety rules and practices esp language barriers (e.g. foreign workers and junior workers).
