WEEK 2 | TERM 3 | THURSDAY 30 JULY 2020 Bingara Central School FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Last Friday, our staff had the privilege of engaging in whole school Visible Learning training. COVID-19 only allowed us the option to participate in this professional development opportunity through a virtual means. Our deliverer was stationed at Port Lincoln in South Australia, whilst we linked up with other schools in the Moree area. The training has set the tone for all our staff for the beginnings of a consistent learning model from Kindergarten through to Year 12. The purpose of Visible Learning is for teachers to gain a greater understanding of learning through the eyes of the student and for the student to see their learning through the eyes of the teacher. This will create a strengthened partnership in learning, students will have ownership of their learning and they will understand the learning processes and the challenges that come with developing new skills and refining them through practice. has begun. Stage 5 will receive their booklets this week, whilst Stage 6 will receive them next week. As we cannot hold the usual subject selection evening with parents, staff will be presenting information sessions to students during roll call over the coming weeks. Students will have access to details of the course and will be free to question their teachers about the subjects on offer. The first round of selections will be due on 14 August with the final round of subject selection lines to go out on 21 August. During this time our Careers Adviser Mrs Gasson will be working intensively with our students which will also require parent input. Parents are asked to read through the subject selection booklets, discuss options with your child and of course phone the school for any further follow up.Attendance at school plays a large part in improving student learning outcomes for our students. The NSW Department of Education expects that all our students have attendance rates of 90% and above. We are very close to meeting this target, currently we are sitting at 89.3%. It is essential that our students are here every day and that a prompt response and explanation as to your child’s absence is provided to the school. As of next week, we will be moving from our paper based attendance notification system to an attendance messaging system. For all students who are absent each day, a text message from the school will be sent to their parent’s mobile number that is recorded at the school. We kindly ask that parents either reply to the message with an explanation or ring the school. If contact details require updating at the school, please phone the front office.Breakfast Club is returning next week. We have been fortunate enough to be able to link up with the Food Bank program – School Breakfast 4 Health. Food Bank assists our school to deliver a nutritious meal that will help students focus and concentrate in class. We will even have a few surprises throughout the term for the whole school. We have a great day lined up for Yrs K – 10 next Wednesday. Week 3 is Education Week with the theme ‘Learning Together’. We all know the importance of parents as

    WHEELCHAIRSWANTED

Stage 5 Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) are currently undertaking a “Physical Activity and Sport for Specific Groups” unit of work. We are specifically learning about sport for individuals with disabilities. We would be grateful of borrowing any older wheelchairs that are not currently being used in the community which could be put to great use for some practical activities. If you could assist us in anyway and would be willing to lend a wheelchair for a four week duration, please contact the school on 67241606.

partners in learning with their child. We know that learning is more enjoyable when all our students participate and when they can meaningfully contribute to their community – great outcomes can be achieved! We have Buddy and his team from Winagaali Infusions joining us at The Living Classroom and also Jodie Herden who will be doing a story based art design workshop with the students. Jodie will be using these designs as inspiration for the Water Weaving Way art project at the Bingara Swimming Pool. The Expressions of Interests from the students to participate in this activity filled up quickly on Tuesday morning. We can’t wait to see the product that is produced from this activity.

  • Jakes time at Bingara Central School has come to an end. After a ten week prac teaching block, Jake leaves us on Friday. We caught up with Jake to ask him about his time at Bingara Central School.

“I have had a great time, I have really enjoyed it. It is so nice to have small classes, it gives you more time to spend with each and every student. Actually, the Bingara community as a whole have been very welcoming.”Jake is taking a short break in Bellingen as a celebration for finishing his degree. He is planning to record some music with friends while he is there. When asked what he is going to miss the most about Bingara Central School, Jake replied “I’m really going to miss the students, especially the Stage 6 students. I have had a lot to do with them and I have given them my email so they can contact me with any question they may have in the lead up to the HSC and I wish them well.”Jakes parting advice is for students to take advantage of the smaller classes at Bingara Central School. The teachers want to help you, they want to see you succeed and do well.

Students are able to represent any three digit numbers using objects, pictures, words and numerals. They are beginning to use a range of strategies and informal recording methods for addition and subtraction involving one- and two-digit numbers. Kade is proving to be a maths whiz as he takes on and applies these new skills when working mathematically on written and oral maths tasks.

  • At Bingara Central School, we love to celebrate the success of our students both past and present #BCSsuccess. One of our 2020 students has recently accepted a wonderful career opportunity as an Apprentice Pastry Chef. Congratulations Blade, we look forward to hearing about your continued success! This week, we are proud to share your story as you embark on the next chapter of your life #BCSiswhereitbegan.

What is the best thing about Bingara Central School? The best thing about Bingara Central School is the teachers and it is like a little family here at school. It is good to come and see your mates and a great atmosphere to be in.

What is your favourite Bingara Central School tradition? My favourite tradition is probably the orange picking, it is always fun.

Where are you now? Occupation? In the first week of the school holidays I started at the Bingara Bakehouse as an Apprentice Pastry Chef. I am now in my fourth week. At the moment I have been making dough, putting the bread through the machine, making pies and learning the ropes. I am excited about my career. I start work at 1:30am and finish around 10:00am each day. As well as this, I am still going to continue my lawn mowing business as I am proud of that too.

What are some of your achievements? Moving to Bingara. I moved from Perth to Bingara and it is the best thing that happened to me. It has shaped who I am

today. If I would have stayed in Perth I don’t know where I would have ended up.Buying my Landcruiser is one of my great achievements. I left school for a bit in Year 9 to work in the shearing sheds. I saved all my money and was able to buy my own vehicle.I haven’t always had the best relationship with my teachers but this has improved the older I got. I am going to really miss Mr McGowan and Mrs Gasson, in particular. They have always been really good to me.

What is an interesting fact about you? My Year 12 major work project is a model steam engine. I am half way through but I’m going to finish it at home. I got inspiration for it from YouTube.I love cooking. Mum has been a big influence for me in the kitchen. I enjoy helping Mum cooking and decorating cakes and cupcakes. I was also a Kitchen Hand at the Imperial Hotel for a while.I was a Rouseabout in Queensland for a bit before coming back to Bingara to school.I have always done odd jobs after school and on weekends. Handyman type of things. I like to try and keep busy. I’ve done a fair bit in my short amount of time. For my lawn mowing business I own two ride on lawn mowers, two whipper snippers and two good push mowers. I love horse riding at Wadey’s. I started helping out when I was 9 years old and I am still there now on the weekends. Spot is my lead horse and also my favourite.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?Hopefully I’m still enjoying life as a pastry chef as much as I do at the moment. One day I might even own my own bakery.

Moree Plains Shire Council is workingwith their waste and recyclingcontractor, Cleanaway, to host the “Be green, keep your recycling clean”truck art competition.

Always keep your recyclables empty, clean,

dry and unbagged to avoid contamination.

Contamination occurs when we place the
