DECEMBER 2016 TALK OF THE WALK~ 9

CLUBS

VillageWalk CERT Our next meeting is

Wednesday, December 14th 6:00 p.m.

CERT is a group of community volunteers trained by our local fire department to be first responders in emergency situations such as hurricanes and tornadoes. The team is activated by Bonita Springs Fire and Rescue during such emergencies. At Village Walk we meet the second Wednesday of each month at the Town Center. We discuss plans for emergency situations and refresh our training to enable us to better function as a team. We always seek more volunteers to better address emergency events. Residents interested in joining should contact Nicole Hornberger at Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue, (239) 949-6227, [email protected]. If you would like more information or have any questions, please email [email protected].

The Cancer Support Group The Cancer Support Group meets monthly to provide a forum for those who have been impacted by cancer—survivors, caregivers and anyone who would like to be

involved in the fight. We offer support, information and resources, or a few words of encouragement from “someone who has been there.”We normally meet on the second Wednesday of the month, but will not be having a December meeting due to the holidays. We will resume normal meetings in January. Please join our team, the Village Walkers of Bonita, for the Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday, March 4, at Coconut Point. Contact our Team Captain, Caryl Rumble, at [email protected] for more information.A very sincere thank you to all who attended and supported our 4th Annual High Tea and Fashion Show! A sold out event, we had 155 attendees and raised $9,160 for Susan G. Komen of Southwest FL! Special thanks to our impressive team of volunteers, and to the VillageWalk “streets” who donated fantastic baskets for our raffle and silent auction: Danios Drive, Finch Terrace (2 baskets!), Herring Way, Islet Trail (3 baskets!), Jewel Fish Lane (2 baskets!), Malayan Court, Orlanda Drive, Puffin Drive, Zamora Court, and the ladies of Mah Jongg! See you next year!

CANADIANSIf you are a Canadian and wish to meet with

other Canadians at VillageWalk, email Frank Kearney at [email protected] to be included in future mailings and

notified of future events. You may also wish to visit http://www.villagewalkbonita.com/canada.htm to learn more

about the immigration and tax issues that may affect you.

Grandma’s ClosetWe need a volunteer to continue Grandma’s closet, if you would like to do this please contact Mindy at 239-949-9909.Grandma’s Closet is such a wonderful asset to our community! Grandma’s Closet is a community listing of baby and children’s items such as cribs, strollers, play toys, etc. that you are willing to share with other homeowners. We all have family who come into town; instead of buying these items why not help someone in need.

Sunshine CommitteeIf you are aware of one of your neighbors that is ill or has lost a loved one, please contact Mary Jane at 221-7160 or email [email protected] so that she may send out a card.

STOCK MARKET INVESTING CLUBSaturday Mornings at 10am

Share ideas on stock trading, charts, market trends, and investing ideas. Open meeting for anyone interested in

learning or sharing stock trading experiences. Each week begins with a market review of the previous week, and a view of the week ahead. Contact Dan Byrd at 301-802-2783 or [email protected]

Cocktails and Conversation! Friday, December 9th • 7:00 p.m.

On the second Friday of the month, Village Walk residents come together at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Center to socialize, meet new people, and have fun. It’s informal, there is no agenda, and no planned activities. Just some old-fashioned conversation and sharing. We would especially like to invite

new residents so we can get to know our neighbors in this amazing community. This is a great way to meet people and share information. No need to RSVP. Just come and enjoy your fellow Village Walk neighbors for an evening of relaxation. Please bring a snack to share if you wish, what you’d like to drink, and

any paper products you might need. Hope to see you there! If you have any questions please contact Brenda Peters at [email protected]

Are You Utilizing the Online Gate Access System? This past February the gate access switched to a live online access program named DwellingLive. The system offers registering temporary guest, permanent guest, and party list of guest online. If you opt to use the additional feature, you can be notified via email or text when your guest arrives. If you have not registered, please contact the HOA to activate your online gate access account -239-949-9909. A tip if you are already registered, please make sure your contact phone numbers are up-to-date. This will help the guards for those times when unannounced guest arrives at the gate and the guard needs to contact you to grant your guest access to your residence.

Holiday Lights and Mulch Installation CoincideHoliday lighting and decorations may be installed from the weekend of Thanksgiving through January 10, 2017. The landscapers may choose not to mow or trim or perform other landscaping services where decorations are present, nor will HOA vendors or the HOA be responsible for damage to any items placed in common areas maintained by the Association.

Since mulch will be installed beginning December 2, timing for mulch and holiday decorations is not ideal. The mulch company will try to take care around any decorations that are installed on shrubs or in mulched beds, however please use caution when installing your decorations so they are protected from harm.
