Yet, despite being the oldest profession we are on a continuous pursuit to understand it. Jason Robbins is the 2 nd Vice President/Treasurer as well as the Regional Director for Manitoba and Saskatchewan of the Royal Architectural Insititute of Canada. He was also a founding board member and past Chair of Storefront Manitoba, a non-profit organization developed to advance the awareness and appreciation of architecture, design and the built environment in Manitoba. StorefrontMB is responsible for Cool Gardens: a public exhibition of contemporary garden and art, FRONTlines: a discussion series to create a dialogue between the city’s design professionals, developers, and the public, as well as The Winnipeg Design Festival: an annual event that promotes and celebrates design culture in Manitoba with engaging events. bio Jason likes to talk about architecture. Architecture connects us physically and emotionally. It is deeply connected to our psyche and is present in our lives - from shelter to self-transcendence. Yet, despite being the oldest profession we are on a continuous pursuit to understand it.

theatre architecture

Chan Centre for the Performing Arts (Westsun Vancouver, Designer/Draftsman) Design & develop shop drawings for the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, especially theatrical drapery, fixtures, and acoustics.

Capilano University Theatre (Westsun Vancouver, Designer/Draftsman) Design & develop shop drawings for the Capilano University Theatre, especially theatrical rigging, lighting, drapery, fixtures, and acoustics.

Sega Playdium, Toronto (Westsun International, Draftsman) Draft detail drawings for architectural elements containing theatrical lighting.

The Tragically Hip: Trouble at the Henhouse Tour (Westsun Winnipeg, Designer) Develop staging components and elements based on the Howard Ungerleider schematic design and lighting plot. The stage was assembled at one end of the arena and rolled into place once the lighting was rigged. All units were modular and built around simple erection.

Show Boat, Sunset Boulevard (Westsun Winnipeg Show Systems, Designer/Draftsman) Design and develop lighting and audio truss for the touring productions of Show Boat & Sunset Boulevard, including Front of House truss and focus rails, and flying spotlight platforms.

Manitoba Schools Initiative (Stantec, Production Architect)Lead the Architecture and Engineering team through Design Development to Tender with a restricted budget and tight time lines.

North Memorial Daycare (Stantec, Architect)Working with the design team and client to produce and coordinate the project.

CFB 14 Wing Greenwood Air Traffic Control Tower (National Defence, Project Architect)Design and develop the project working within Nav Canada and Military requirements for aerodrome engineering.

CFB 19 Wing Comox Hangar Door Replacement (National Defence, Architect)Examine existing hangar doors for the CF-188 hangars. Work with the base engineers and consultants to create a plan for their replacement.

CFB 3 Wing Bagotville QRA Program (National Defence, Architect)Create a detailed pre-design feasibility study that considered weapons safety zoning, direct access to the main runway, and risk evaluation.

1 Canadian Air Division Furniture Fit-up (National Defence, Project Designer)Design and develop a furniture fit-up plan that created space efficiency, met accessibility guidelines, provided a collaborative workspace, and met Public Works Furniture Fit-up Standard.

Kandahar Airfield Operations Buildings (National Defence, Project Designer)Design and develop air operations buildings to support Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. The buildings were all based on modular ISO containers and met requirements for the Obstacle Limitation Surface, Force Protection and the National Building Code of Canada.
