1. SUMMARY According to the Decree on requirements and procedures for acquiring the status of privileged producer of electricity, temporary privileged producer, and producer of energy from renewable sources („The Official Gazette of RS“ No. 56/2016), Article 27, para 1, item 9), BIOGAS EXAMPLE DOO is hereby submitting its Annual Report for the year 2016 (hereinafter: the Report) regarding the operation of the plant BGE EXAMPLE 2016 – PRIMERGRAD, GORNJE PRIMERJE (hereinafter: the Plant).

The Plant started operation in the status of privileged producer of electricity as of the date of the first reading of the meter on 1 July 2016. The Decision granting the status of privileged producer of electricity was issued for the plant of installed capacity of 200 kW, and the Plant was registered as a Biogas Plant.

2. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION For the purpose of its operation the Plant uses biogas as the basic and only fuel. The designed consumption of the primary fuel annually is 1,000,000 Nm3. For the purposes of producing electricity and thermal energy use is made of the CHP unit type EXAMPLE-CHP2016, of nominal generator power 250 kVA. In case of accident the plant has a possibility to transport the produced biogas to the torch for burning. The consumed fuel is measured in measuring points marked in the diagram (Figure 2) as MBG1 and MBG2, by means of measuring instruments type EXAMPLE-GASMESURE2016, of accuracy 0.5 %.

Own consumption of electricity by the plant (for operation purposes) includes the generator start up circuit, two pumps for substrate pumping of nominal power 3 kVA each, two substrate mixers of 3 kVA each, extruder of 3 kVA, compressor of 3 kVA and other smaller consumers such as the control system, circular pumps, regulation valves and the like, of total installed power less than 10 kW. The total own consumption, except the generator start-up, is provided from the grid via a separate measuring point. The general consumption which includes lighting, supply for the management building and garage for operational vehicles is provided from the grid via a separate connection and measuring point, so that data for this consumption is not presented in this Report. Measurement of produced electricity is performed at the measuring point marked in the diagram (Figure 3) as MEE1, with measuring instruments which are an integral part of the management system and have no commercial function, but are important only from the point of view of internal system control. Measurement of electricity taken over from the grid is performed at the measuring point marked in the diagram (Figure 3) as MEE2 by equipment which is procured and installed according to requirements for design and connection, and valid standards and regulations for connection of the plant to the grid.

Produced thermal energy is used partly for own needs, and partly is sold to the nearby farm from which manure is procured. Excess thermal energy is transferred to the external heat exchanger units. Measurement of thermal energy is performed at the measuring point marked in the diagram (Figure 3) as MTE1, type PRIMER-KALRM2016.

The Plant is operating in the vicinity of the biogas plant BGE EXAMPLE 2014, with identical characteristics as BGE PRIMER 2016. With the said nearby plant there is a joint silo of silage, but full recording of storing and input of silage is completely separate for each plant. Also, both plants use the same lagoon and they both deliver the thermal energy to the same buyer via separate measuring points. All other installations are completely separate and there is no exchange of materials or energy between the plants. Delineation between the plants is presented in the diagram (Figure 3) with the thick interrupted line.

Biogas is produced in a total of 2 digesters of total working volume 2,500 m3, and the designed share of substrate dry matter in digesters is within the limits of 13 %. The plant is designed to use the following substrates: 4400 t sorghum, 1600 t cattle manure, 1600 t poultry manure, and 1500 t corn and straw. Of that, it is planned to store sorghum, corn and straw in silos for a period of one to maximum two years; and for manure up to several days, and this only in cases of average or plant reconstruction. Also, due to moisture loss there is loss of mass of fresh matter up to 15 % of sorghum silage during one year, while data for other substrates are not available. Both forms of manure are used in regular operating regime without storing with holding periods of maximum several days. Entry of substrate is measured via the weighing scale presented in the diagram (Figure 2) marked as MSvM1.

The plant procures from its own production the silage substrates, specifically sorghum, corn and straw. The plant procures in the market cattle and poultry manure, from the chicken farm, two smaller fattening calves’ farms, and individual cattle breeders from the two neighbouring villages.

Tests of energy sources (biogas) and substrate were performed for all types of substrates used at the beginning of 2016 before the plant was commissioned into trial run.

The trial run lasted for less than a month, so that data for that period are covered by this Report. The digester working temperature is 35°C. For the purpose of heating the digestate the plant uses its own generation of thermal energy in the CHP plant.

In the period from 3 – 12 November 2016, due to an average on the middle voltage network, the Plant could not deliver electricity, and during this period the entry of substrate was at the minimum necessary value to maintain the technological process, and the produced biogas was burnt in the chimney during that period.
