Prof. Tarek Hassanein M.D, FACP, FACG, AGAF, FAASLD Professor of Medicine, UCSD School of Medicine. Director of Outreach Services, UCSD Center for Liver Transplantation. Prof. Tarek Hassanein, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist who specializes in liver disease. He provides care to patients at Southern California GI and Liver Centers, a clinical services collaborator of UC San Diego Health. Dr. Hassanein focuses his practice on the management of viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, and care of patients before and after liver transplantation. Dr. Hassanein earned his medical degree from Alexandria University in Egypt. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He completed a research and clinical fellowship in gastroenterology, hepatology, and transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh. He is board certified in transplant hepatology, gastroenterology and internal medicine. He is fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Gastroenterological Association. Dr. Hassanein serves as the medical director of outreach services for the Liver Transplant Program Outreach Services at UC San Diego Health.
